ZOFFANY deserves a place at the top of the Middleham Park sires' tree, for he provided us with one of our Group 1 winners in Ventura Storm, so we always pay extra attention to his progeny at the sales. This son of Zoffany, out of the Galileo mare Heliocentric ticked all our boxes and was Bloodstock agent Ross Doyle's 'nap of the day' at the sale. Heliocentric has already produced two very talented performers and we see no reason why this son of Zoffany should prove to be any different. From a sale that has afforded us both Clem Fandango and Raymond Tusk from a small cohort of purchases, the Arqana August Yearling Sale offers fabulous individuals with very strong pedigrees and it's no surprise that both French Guineas winners in 2018 were purchased at the Deauville Sales complex. The complex has been a very happy hunting ground for many, not just ourselves.
We couldn't fail but be impressed by this colt; he possesses a great combination of strength and athleticism. He moves really well in his slower paces (please see a video of his walk on this page), which often bodes well for any horse's faster paces too and looks in no uncertain manner, something akin to our Group 1 winner Ventura Storm; they have a very similar look to each other when standing. He is also qualified for Owners' premiums in France, which means in flat races, open to foreign runners, owners of qualified French-bred horses, receive a premium for all places in receipt of prize money: 64% of prize money for 2yo’s 3yo’s and 4yo’s and 43% of prize money for 5yo’s and upwards. The purchase price of €50,000 in August is very much the sort of price we have paid for some of our very best Richard Hannon trained horses too: De Bruyne Horse £50,000, Kool Kompany £40,000, Boitron €45,000, Tigre Du Terre €55,000. It is perfectly conceivable to believe that our latest son of Zoffany can follow in their illustrious footsteps. His trainer Richard Hannon, masterminded Ventura Storm's career which included a 2nd place in the 2016 St Leger having won at and indeed competed at Group 1 level - even as a 2 year old.
He looks the sort of horse who will progress throughout his career. In fact, Richard has already told us that this colt has a very similar profile to our Group 1 winner and son of Zoffany, Ventura Storm at this stage-sensible and good to work with.
Pedigree update: "Sire on fire ZOFFANY (IRE) has 2 Group winners in 2 hemispheres in 2 days!" ITM Read an interesting story in the Racing Post about Zoffany here. Our own Ventura Storm is mentioned as the Group 1 winning son of the sire.

Trainer Update: Richard likes him, saying he's a nice strong colt and is easy to deal with. Doing nice daily canters, he is taking everything very well at this stage. With his pedigree, needing trips of 1m+, it looks like we'll see him out mid season and building up in trip from there.
