Purchased at Tattersalls Ireland, he is by RED JAZZ - who stands at the famous Ballyhane Stud. He was very smart over 5f and 6f at 2 and later a high class Group race performer over 7f.
Ventura Gold looks very much like his sire and as a yearling when we purchased him, he just moved superbly well, with a fantastic walk, with real strength and substance about him.
He is from the extended family of the champion two-year-old Dream Ahead and the Cheveley Park Stakes (Gr1) runner up Princess Noor. He is the first foal out of a GREEN DESERT mare which are often the very best mares to breed from.
The Racing Post commented on our purchase at the time: 'Also making an early impact was Federico Barberini, who snapped up a son of Red Jazz from Ballinaroone Stud for €36,000 on behalf of Middleham Park Racing. Red Jazz stands at Joe Foley's Ballyhane Stud alongside first-season sire Elzaam, whose daughter Clem Fandango - another Barberini purchase and MPR owned- supplied her sire with a first stakes winner when landing a Listed race at Ayr last week.'
"I've seen quite a few of his progeny that I like," Barberini said of Red Jazz. "This is a very nice horse, his pedigree makes sense and I've been lucky with the family before. Sometimes striking nice and early with these sires is the right thing to do. Hopefully he can follow in the filly's [Clem Fandango] footsteps!"
Syndicate Manager Update: Ventura Gold really is Mr. Consistent, we feel he is the perfect horse for both new and experienced owners alike. Most horses struggle to win one race in a season, Ventura Gold manged to come home in front no fewer than 3 times last season. What’s more he picked up prize money for his owners on no fewer 11 times last season from only 13 starts, (one of the unplaced runs was when he was ridden by Luke Harvey in a charity race) that’s a staggering 85% of the time!
We feel that he has wintered particularly well and the tank is topped up and ready to go. We see him as a horse who should at least be able to equal his win tally of last season, but more than likely better it.
