Race entries

Stepney Causeway is the perfect dual-purpose horse. St Moritz and The White Turf is what Milton is thinking for him...

In October 2021, Milton purchased Mordred, who went on to win 4 races for us, in his first 12 months - winning 2 races on 'The White Turf' in February at St Moritz, Switzerland (including finishing 2nd in a local Group 2), followed by a hurdles and a chase win over the Summer of 2022. Not too shabby for a 16,000gns Horse In Training purchase. He’s won over £35,000 since we bought him.

We’ve spent a couple of bob more on Stepney Causeway, at £25,000, however he’s a year younger, very lightly raced on the Flat and half a stone Mordred’s superior, and 28 lbs better over hurdles and fences.

The plan with him will be very similar to Mordred’s last season. We will work back from St Moritz in February and then rest him up for a spring/summer’s campaign back over here in Great Britain. Off a mark in the 130’s he can even run at NH festivals in the Spring and big Summer plates at the likes of Market Rasen can be on his agenda.

In the short term, he’s already very fit, he’s run twice for Bill Gredley & Dan Skelton this Autumn and is ready to run again. He’s just not quite up to the top-class standards that the Gredley’s like to operate at, so they’ve moved him on.

Milton would like to run him in a novices’ handicap chase or two between now and Christmas and then prep him and freshen him up for St Moritz, where they race throughout the month of February. The race committee at St Moritz are fabulously accommodating to owners, as is Milton himself.

A thoroughly entertaining horse with a thoroughly entertaining trainer. Should win his fair share of races, possibly more than pay his way and will afford owners plenty of craic.

Racing Update (23rd November); Milton gave him a pipe opener over fences and is now planning to send him to The White Turf meeting in St Moritz, where we enjoyed 2 wins from his stablemate Mordred last year. The plan is for them both to go over for this glamourous meeting, where last year, owners had a fantastic time.
