Curragh - Irish 2000 Guineas
Here's a fabulous son of the ultra-consistent, winner producing stallion Footstepsinthesand. We were absolutely thrilled to be able to secure him for Mark to train, this horse was pretty much right there at the top of our wish list on day 1 of the Tattersalls Ireland yearling sale. We just weren't sure that we'd be able to afford him. He's a thoroughly attractive dark bay colt with a fantastic physique and very good movement. We struggled to fault him. He looks every inch a racehorse and he has the semblance of the typical type of individual that Mark has trained particularly well throughout his career. He's strong and looks tough with plenty of size and potential and appears to have a very resilient temperament too, which ought to stand him in good stead. He is one of the nicer individuals that we have seen all sales' season. He is also 'Plus 10 Bonus' qualified.
As a racehorse, Footstepsinthesand stayed a mile very well in winning the Group 1 Classic, the 2000 Guineas; so, it's fair to say he was out of the very top drawer. As a stallion, he has made a fantastic start to his career, siring in excess of 65 horses around the world with performance ratings of over 100, with over 20 of these progeny earning a rating of 110 or more. He's a high-class stallion to back up his lofty racecourse achievements. We've experienced great success before with his progeny in the form of our own Sandiva, who won her first two races before finishing 2nd in The Albany at Royal Ascot. As a 2yo she won the prestigious Group 3 Prix du Calvados at Deauville before going on to have a very successful career in America once sold. Footstepsinthesand is the sire currently of the high class Larchmont Lad and he appears to throw out winners pretty much every day of the week. Of course, the stallion of any racehorse is only half the story, the dam is a vital ingredient too. The dam of this colt Sindiyma, hails from a superb Aga Khan black type family that's steeped with a back catalogue of achievers of the highest order, most notably the Champion 3yo in Europe, SINNDAR. There are at least 10 Group and Listed performers in the pedigree and the dam herself was a winning racehorse. She's performed exceptionally well as a broodmare too, her three offspring to date all proving winners on the racecourse earning Timeform ratings of 92, 90 and 108 respectively. At least two of the three sires she has visited prior to visiting Footstepsinthesand, you would have to describe as stallions of lesser stallion potency than Footstepsinthesand. We'd suggest this bodes exceptionality well indeed for the mare's, now fourth progeny.
Syndicate manager update: The perfect horse to own. Runs regularly, is always competitive whatever he does, this globetrotting horse will take his owners to the biggest tracks, for the biggest races next season. We've one eye on the Craven Stakes and the 2000 Guineas in 2019, given he's already a Group 3 winner and has been placed at Group 1 and Group 2 levels.
