Purchased at the Tattersalls Ireland Yearling sale, this colt is by FOOTSTEPSINTHESAND.
Tattersalls reported: Lot 359 "He was our pick of the colts this week," said Tim Palin of Middleham Park Racing after spending €90,000 on Coole House Farm's Footstepsinthesand colt. "He was the first horse we vetted on Monday and we saw him three times – every time we went to see him there was a queue of people to see him! "He is strong, well developed horse and is a half-brother to a three-time winner rated 95 who is still progressing – what is there not to like! "He will go to Richard Hannon, who is the best trainer of horses by the sire; let's hope this is another Threat." Underbidders included Jono Mills and Katie Walsh. Middleham Park has purchased five horses so far this week, including a filly by Dandy Man (Lot 80), who was "our pick of the fillies".
It’s fair to say that the sire FOOTSTEPSINTHESAND has enjoyed a stellar couple of seasons with his progeny, starting with our own MARIE’S DIAMOND who, in 2018, won the Group 3 Anglesey Stakes as a 2yo at The Curragh, followed by finishing placed in the Group 2 Richmond Stakes and Group 1 Middle Park Stakes. He trained on to win two further races in 2019 for us, including the listed Pomfret Stakes. Furthermore, Footstepsinthesand has backed this up, in 2019, with Richard Hannon’s top class 2yo colts, Mums Tipple and Threat.
Footstepsinthesand has now been catapulted to the being perceived as one of the very top stallions out there, and you can imagine our delight in managing to secure, from the same sale that we purchased Marie’s Diamond, a couple of fantastic colts by the sire of the moment. Successes for ourselves, in the form of the Group 3 winner Sandiva and also for Richard Hannon’s Larchmont Lad, show Footstepsinthesand’s ongoing ability to deliver top class performers; he’s a fabulous sire! Pedigree Update (October '19) - INTUITIVE, his 3yo half brother by Haatef, sold for 190,000gns today at the Tattersalls Horses-In-Training sale. Intuitive, in light of his recent Chelmsford and Kempton wins, has moved up to be officially rated 101. Our colt possesses a fabulously “active” pedigree and the sky could be the limit for this son of Footstepsinthesand; the sire of Mums Tipple and Threat, no less.
Pedigree Update (November '19) - The Racing Post reported: "The redoubtable Footstepsinthesand has been rewarded for a fruitful year, with horses like Threat and Mums Tipple, with an increase in his stallion fee of €5,000, up to €15,000."
View his videos in the gallery. You can see him parading with our whole string in the barn and on the gallops (he is saddle cloth number 17).
Trainer Update: We saw him at our March stable visit and he looked very well indeed. He cantered through nicely and Tim had him as one of his eye catchers from the 2 year old string. He has always had a bit of quality about him. He is a lovely big horse with a great pedigree and is a good mover and Richard says that he has a super attitude and looks like he will be a mid season type over 6 or 7 furlongs. Richard says "He is one of our best 2 year old's." Now that's Richard talking about his WHOLE string, not just the MPR 2 year old's!
Season Update: It's business as usual at Richard's yard and the 2 year old's will continue to canter upsides and be educated ready for their debuts. In the last three or four seasons Richard's 2 year old strategy has changed and the yard send out much fewer 'early' 2 year old sorts. Last year we didn't run a 2 year old in April at all and only one the year before, so this enforced break means that very little has changed for the youngsters.
Richard says in his latest website post: "Business is carrying on pretty much as usual – The horses are still going out every day and we are continuing to prep them for the start of the flat season, whenever that may be. Our staff remain fit and healthy and are continuing with the day to day routine. Our two-year olds have begun working on the grass gallop and will at least have plenty of time to complete their education before they run."
