Purchased for 15,000gns at the July Sales from the famous Niarchos family, rated 75p by Timeform, we believe we’ve unearthed a talented future stayer. As his pedigree would suggest, distances of ground should be the making of Highlighter. By Australia, 'A World Champion 3YO by Galileo out of 7-time Gr.1 winner Ouija Board' Read about his sire, here: https://coolmore.com/farms/ireland/stallions/australia. (Note an update to the pedigree page.)
Watch his walk:
We are calling him 'Operation MOSTLY CLOUDY', as our association will hopefully be known with this horse. We’re aiming to emulate the 5 wins from 8 runs that Gemma and her team achieved with their vastly improving horse Mostly Cloudy! Fourth on his only run for the Niarchos family, we’re of the opinion that Highlighter needs to be stepped up in trip significantly, once we’ve earned a handicap mark.
The way he stayed on strongly up the straight, on debut, at Windsor gives him something to seriously build on for the future. It’s unlikely that he’s a Group horse, or the Niarchos family wouldn’t be moving him on via the sale, but you could envisage a fulsome career ahead of him in handicaps, up in trip.
There ought to be plenty of improvement to come, as Timeform suggest (see the gallery.) He could easily make up into a horse for those top staying handicaps, that carry so much prize money and he’s a thoroughly exciting and welcome addition to the MPR ranks.
He was the Racing Post Eyecatcher for his last start, they said: "Eyecatcher: Highlighter (3.50) couldn't cope with his younger rivals but he's one to note for handicaps over further." He looks to have a particularly bright future at the game and how he has his handicap mark, he looks a good acquisition at just 15,000gns in July 2022. He will expand onto the turf in 2023. Thoroughly unexposed, he could still be anything.
Training Update (25th March): We saw him at our owners stable visit this morning (video added below,) looking and moving well. He came up the gallops ahead of his work partner and Gemma is excited about his season ahead. We have a race in mind for him at Doncaster next weekend. His entries/declarations, will show on this page.
