At any given time, we have a number of trainers on our radar, as trainers we’d look to add to our trainers’ roster and to place horses with. David Loughnane, trainer of Go Bears Go, Wallbank, Lola Showgirl, Dubai Warrior etc, is an up-and-coming young trainer we’ve had in mind, for a little while. We’ve probably half a dozen trainers who we’ve been in touch with, suggesting that if ever they have a horse on their books, that they’d recommend as a high-quality individual, to give us a nudge and we’ll take a look at what they have on offer. That’s precisely what’s happened here, David and his team have brought this gorgeous, and seemingly very talented, unraced daughter of the all-conquering young sire Mehmas, to the table.

Mehmas stands for a fee of €60,000 and has made an electric start to his career at stud with the likes of the Gr.1 Middle Park Stakes and Gr.2 Richmond Stakes winner SUPREMACY, top Gr. 1-winning filly GOING GLOBAL and back-to-back Gr. 2 Gimcrack Stakes winners MINZAAL (later winner of the G1 Betfair Sprint Cup as a 4yo) and LUSAIL, alongside other top-class 2yos CATURRA and PERSIAN FORCE. PERSIAN FORCE now stands alongside his sire at Tally-Ho Stud. Our own SILKY WILKIE, (Timeform rated 115) by Mehmas, has been a star and is probably one of our most popular horses!

The video we have, as you can see below, is one of her taking a solid 86-90 rated 3yo off the bridle at home. It’s most unusual that any 2yo can do that, given the rather lofty WFA (weight for age) scale that any 2nd is up against at this time of year.

The sort of performance, in evidence in the video is her showing something that’s quite exceptional and, if replicated on the track (there’s no reason why it shouldn’t be), suggests she will she have little difficulty in picking up her maiden, presumably enhancing her current valuation in the process, before, hopefully, going on to much bigger and better things, including competing in ‘black type’ and  very possibly Group races; that’s our aspiration anyway! She’s very speedily bred, and sprint distances should see her at her very best. Could we be dreaming of owning another super speedster, akin to The Platinum Queen? You never know!

Here she is at Davids:

Initially purchased by David and his bloodstock team for €47,000 at the Goff’s Sportsman’s Yearling Sale, she’s come along really strongly in recent weeks, and having been a fairly late (29th April) foal, she was never going to be a super early, pre–Royal Ascot 2yo.
