At Middleham Park Racing, we like to think we have an eye for quality. Such vision has afforded us three Group 1 victories on the Flat in the last 4 years. So we approached the recent OSARUS Breeze Up Sale in France with just 'quality' in mind. Imagine our delight when the horse we felt breezed visually the best from the whole day's cohort, turned out to have the fastest final furlong and gallop out time. The stars seem to have aligned quite nicely we felt.
On closer inspection by ourselves, ace agent Richard Venn and our on site vet, we found this filly oozed the sort of quality we were looking for. A daughter of the Group 1 winning and Group 1 producing stallion WOOTTON BASSETT, we decided to try and buy her at the subsequent auction. Suffice to say we were thrilled to secure her for €77,000. This figure topped the sale, showing the market's belief that we have unearthed an item of quality too. The best in the sale. The next best price in the sale was €40,000 so this filly was clearly the standout horse, head and shoulders above the others.
She looks like a real quality second half of the season 2yo who will start over 6 or 7f. She ought to get a mile and a mile and a quarter in time. In her breeze, the further she went, the better she went, displaying a gallant attitude right through the line. She possesses a fantastic stride and a superb head carriage. We can't wait to see her on the track and who better to send her to, we thought, than the trainer of Group 1 winning 2yo Wootton Bassett himself in Richard Fahey!
The dam has already produced 3 very good winners to date and we see every reason to believe this gorgeous grey filly should follow them into the winners' enclosure. If we could achieve some black type with our filly, as we did with our Richard Fahey fillies LILY'S ANGEL, SANDIVA and REALTRA then she could become a very valuable commodity. She qualifies for French premiums which adds approximately 65% to any earnings she achieves in France.
