Wootton Bassett needs no introduction to any of us at Middleham Park Racing, ever since he won the Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère as a 2yo for one of our trainers, Richard Fahey, before being retired to stud. He's a son of Iffraaj, who himself is a prolific sire of horses which generally excel at distances up to a mile.

Wootton Bassett has made a fantastic start to his stallion career in France and alongside Le Havre is just about the best young stallion there is out there. His Champion Almanzor, trained by Jean-Claude Rouget is testament to his ability in his new career as a sire. His stud fee has quadrupled since first retiring to stud and we are very lucky to still be able to afford his yearling progeny. So upwardly mobile is this fantastic young sire, this may not always be the case. Let's enjoy the opportunity while we can, we have become real fans of him. You can read the Wootton Bassett stallion page here:

This filly is just the sort of filly we have done so well with in conjunction with Keith Dalgleish, notably Clem Fandango who has amassed numerous 'black type', finishing 3rd in the Queen Mary for us at Royal Ascot, 2nd in the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes and in winning the Listed Harry Rosebery stakes at the 2016 Ayr Gold Cup, Western meeting. She was also a creditable 3rd in the Weatherbys Super Sprint to Mrs Danvers.

Our filly is reminiscent too of Keith's Miss Bar Beach who is a dual winner for us, who ran really well in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot in June 2017 and most recently in finishing 3rd in the Group 3 Prestige Stakes at Goodwood; she has now earned three pieces of black type for her pedigree page. Both fillies proving to be high on achievement but low on purchase price; really good value for money, winning racehorses and both now worth considerable sums, having cost initially €11,000 and €9,000 respectively.

She is in training with Keith and we feel she represents exactly the same, inexpensive opportunity that Group performers Clem Fandango and Miss Bar Beach both afforded their owners.

This filly has a great pedigree, a strong physique with a super walk and a fantastic temperament. She is also 'French race premiums' qualified. France is well known for its lucrative system of Owners’ premiums on top of already generous prize-money. On the flat, a 2 or 3-year-old can earn an extra 64% on top of the race purse, so we would expect to be taking full advantage of this initiative.

Syndicate manager update: For Heavens Sake is, as yet, to hit the track, but being by the dual Group 1 winning producing sire Wootton Basset, the World could very much be her oyster. Trained by the most successful Scottish trainer of the recent era, Keith will surely place her to advantage from Ayr to Musselburgh and beyond. You’d struggle to find a more attractive individual, rest assured!
