An absolutely stunning gelding by the super sire Presenting, a simply gorgeous horse who moves beautifully and has a fantastic attitude. Nicky knows the family well as the dam Blue Dante, is out of Weather Line, an unraced half-sister to Grade 1 chase winner Marlborough, also trained at Seven Barrows. (Chase RPR 166). Blue Dante herself won 2 bumpers from 2 starts under rules including a Listed contest beating 11 previous winners.
Seven Barrows 2017/18 Season Preview says: "He’s a lovely big gelding that has always looked a chaser in the making. He’s taken a fair bit of time but the waiting is now over as he goes hurdling. He has only had three runs (at the time of printing), but we have always thought plenty of him. We can now see what he’s capable of as he’s always been an excellent jumper, so this could be a very interesting campaign. He’s been crying out for a trip and now we’re embarking on a novice hurdle campaign, we can provide him with one."
We sent 'The Duke' to Kempton, in what was a very competitive affair, for his Novice hurdle debut where he finished a very pleasing 4th, at a time when, by his own admission, Mr. Henderson’s string were needing their first run. He jumped like a veteran and earned the Timeform comments: “Fair in bumpers, showed aptitude for hurdling after 8 months off and is entitled to come on all round and progress for the run/experience; entitled to progress.” and these comments are supported by The Racing Post: “ From the family of high-class chaser Marlborough, he jumped neatly on his hurdling bow. Several of his top stable's runners have been needing their first run, so he can be excused for tiring in the home straight. He looks a chaser further down the line.” The form of his Kempton run is already working out with the 3rd horse having come out and bolted up on it's next start.
He then went on to run a super race in heavy ground at Haydock to take 2nd and once again jumped well and under Nico de Boinville, was closing in on the winner after the last, getting to within 3/4 of a length. His owners have some journey to look forward to."
