This filly is a purchase from the Arqana October Yearling Sale...
- and we couldn't leave without buying her!
Rod Millman is a great all-round trainer, whether it be sprint speedsters like our own 2yo Listed winner, CUBAN MISTRESS or Lord Kintyre, middle distance performers like Master Carpenter or Northumberland Plate winners like Sergeant Cecil.
He’s probably best known for his ability to train fast 2yo fillies and scoop up large prize money pots, so that’s what we’ve endeavoured to find for Rod this Autumn at the yearling sales and we’re delighted and convinced we’ve come up trumps for him with this splendid, loose moving, yet strong daughter of Group 1 performing French Sprinter CITY LIGHT.
Watch her profile video here:
She’s very elegant and moves fabulously well for a sprinter, but has strong shoulders and neck, great power behind and covers plenty of ground. She’s blessed with a lovely head, a kind eye and looks to have a great mind, from what we can see. She’s got great limbs and is a very correct horse. “Head and shoulders above any of her mare’s progeny to date”, we’re told, and they’ve been very successfully campaigned themselves, so we’d hope that she can take the mare to the next level of BLACK TYPE performance.
She’s a good-sized filly, so we could have a race on, to prep her to debut for March, or the early part of April, however she could easily come to hand shortly thereafter. We’d imagine 5f and 6f would be her distances, but if she did stretch out a little further, we wouldn’t be surprised, in the 2nd half of 2023.
€60,000 isn’t cheap, but she’s got a whole heap of quality about and around her. She’ll have entries in both the £250,000 Weatherby’s Super Sprint at Newbury (which we won in 2022, with Eddie’s Boy) and the Listed £200,000 Redcar 2yo Trophy (which we won with Ventura Mist), but we’d hope she’d be ready to rock n roll in time for Royal Ascot too.
She qualifies for the lucrative French Owner Premiums; so we could easily be taking a trip or two across the English Channel for 2yo Stakes races in France. Read about this scheme, here: https://www.frbc.fr/owners-premiums/
The same MPR buying team, who bought last year's juveniles did a great job, with 18 pieces of 2yo black type earned in 2022 and no doubt they have struck gold with this one too!A very exciting recruit to our 2023 2-year-old roster.
Here she is at Rods, with a voiceover update from him, prior to beginning her training..
Training Update (8th March): Rod is delighted with her progress and says that she is showing plenty of speed and has ability. We saw her at our recent owners stable visit and she took the eye. She did her first piece of work upped in tempo, following our Listed winner CUBAN MISTRESS on the gallops. She looked great and closed the gap nicely as you can see in the video below.
