York - Goffs UK Premier Yearling Auction Stakes
Purchased at THE sale for 2-year-old winners, the Goffs Premier Yearling Sale, this colt is from the first crop of yearlings by dual Group 3 winner Bungle Inthejungle. View his sire's race victories and pedigree here: http://www.rathaskerstud.com/stallion/Bungle-Inthejungle
This colt is especially well bred. He's bred to be fast and very talented too. His dam was a black type performer, winning on 4 occasions. His sire was a very fast horse, winning the 5f Molecomb Stakes at Glorious Goodwood; he always raced prominently and ran right to the line (his race videos can be seen via the link above). There are numerous black type performers in the colt's pedigree and the sire himself is from a fabulously speedy family. He's out of a Danehill Dancer mare, which are proving themselves fabulous brood mare prospects. Our dam for instance has already produced a dual 2yo winner from her only progeny to race and that's from a more stamina based sire in Canford Cliffs. Bungle Inthejungle ought really to impart more speed as well as precocity into the pedigree. We are pretty sure this colt will be very very speedy. We've never really bought a yearling with the Norfolk Stakes especially in mind, but that's what we've done here. He shapes physically like a sharp and early runner; he has the size and substance of a dashing 2yo over 5f in April (perhaps on a Monday evening at Windsor-a regular for team Hannon!) before hopefully going on to bigger and better things. He's every inch the archetypal Richard Hannon 2yo that they have built their careers on. We simply adored him at the sales. He wasn't cheap, but you often get what you pay for in life. Fingers crossed anyway!
Sarah caught up with Richard Hannon at the races recently and he said "another buyer approached me after they missed out on him at Goffs," but they were too late, he's an MPR colt now!
Richard describes him as "a grand colt". Tim also spoke to Everleigh head lad Steve Knight who is a great judge of a horse. He'll have seen thousands of yearlings through the Hannon yard in the 25 years he's worked there. He picked out three colts of ours, (we have thirteen 2 year old horses in total with Richard), and this colt was one of them.
Trainer update (27th May): His sire, Bungle Inthejungle has made a great start to his career with 8 winners and is currently leading the FSS league table. Out of a staying mare, he looks to be taking more after her. He is a talented horse who will start shortly over 6f or 7f. We like him.
