BATED BREATH is a fantastic young sire; a champion sprinter himself, he has already produced 12 stakes winners in 2019 including six Group winners: Daahyeh, Space Traveller, Worth Waiting, Breathtaking Look, Simply Breathless and Maid In India. Spiritofthenorth is a great individual and moves really well in his slower paces. He was ace bloodstock agent Federico Barberini's favourite horse in the Arqana Vente 2 Yearling Sale in France. There were over 140 lots catalogued and we were delighted to pick him up for €21,000, we were expecting him to make a great deal more. The Arqana Vente 2 sale, has produced the French 1000 and 2000 Guineas winners, so the sale is a proven source of quality producing racehorses, especially if you are purchasing a bloodstock agent's pick of the sale.

He is qualified for Owners' premiums in France, which means in flat races, open to foreign runners, owners of qualified French-bred horses, receive a premium for all places in receipt of prize money: 64% of prize money for 2yo’s 3yo’s and 4yo’s and 43% of prize money for 5yo’s and upwards. He’s a superb looking and moving individual who is a really well grown sort, for one so young. He looks the part and is bred to be too and looks the perfect fit for Kevin Ryan.

2019 season update: Following a post-race veterinary examination at Kempton, he was found to have trapped a testicle, which has clearly caused him pain in the prelims, hence he bolted to the start. It’s just possible that the issue had been an intermittent one and holding him back somewhat. We've gelded him now, to alleviate the problem and now that he’s pain free, it’s hopefully, onwards and upwards. He’s a fabulous looking and very sizeable individual, so there’s every reason to believe there’s any amount of improvement to come.

Syndicate manager update (April 2020): A fantastic looking horse, he’s a real oil painting. Big, loose moving individual, who threatens to improve significantly as he matures and fills into his frame. Distances of a mile or 1m2f look like they’ll suit him down to the ground.  He could easily make up into a high-class dual-purpose horse, later this year, and into 2021.

Here he is on the gallops in April (in third):

and here in their faster paces (again, in third):
