BATED BREATH is a fantastic young sire; a champion sprinter himself, he has already produced the likes of the Group 2 winner and Group 1 placed Beckford and 2019 Group 2 Dahlia Stakes winner Worth Waiting. Read about his sire here: https://www.juddmonte.com/stallions/bated-breath/default.aspx. He seems to be imparting speed into his progeny and combined with the very speedy genes that the mare here provides, we look to have a really fast colt on our hands. So, who better to send the colt to, to be trained, than the trainer of Brando, Kevin Ryan.
This colt was purchased by ourselves and ace bloodstock agent Federico Barberini; we teamed up 12 months ago to purchase the Group performer Marie's Diamond, so there's every reason to believe that this dark bay colt could emulate Marie's Diamond's heroic performances around Europe in 2019. Our colt is a great individual, he moves really well in his slower paces (please see the video on this page). He was Federico's favourite horse in the Arqana Vente 2 Yearling Sale. There were over 140 lots catalogued and we were delighted to pick this colt up in August for €21,000, we were expecting him to make a great deal more. The Arqana Vente 2 sale, produced this season's French 1000 and 2000 Guineas no less, so the sale is a proven source of quality producing racehorses, especially if you are purchasing a bloodstock agent's pick of the sale.
He is also qualified for Owners' premiums in France, which means in flat races, open to foreign runners, owners of qualified French-bred horses, receive a premium for all places in receipt of prize money: 64% of prize money for 2yo’s 3yo’s and 4yo’s and 43% of prize money for 5yo’s and upwards. We very much hope we have secured a high-class performer for Kevin Ryan and ourselves for 2019. Fingers crossed, anyway!
He’s by a top class sprinter (who can sire Group horses too) and he’s a half brother to a 5f winner. He’s a superb looking and moving individual who is a really well grown sort, for one so young. He looks the part and is bred to be too and looks the perfect fit for a Kevin Ryan trained colt (We have added a video of him cantering on the gallops.)
He has an 'early closing' race entry, in the Class 2 £300k Weatherbys Bank 2yo Stakes at Doncaster, which of course Kevin won last year!
