Winner 73 of 2026: LEXINGTON JET, trained by David Loughnane and ridden by Silvestre de Sousa. The ‘Virgin Bet Handicap’ over 7f at Chester.

Lexington Jet's success was his first victory on turf for our now 4-time winner, on a 17 lbs higher mark than his first success in January. Despite a good start from stall 2, Silvestre had to surrender for the early lead, but sat right on the leader’s girth to keep up the pace. Lexington Jet disputed the lead on the crown of the bend, taking the field into the home straight.

There were plenty of horses with chances in behind, but our son of Cotai Glory was incredibly tough at the front end and battled resolutely to the line, seeing off late charges from the eventual second and third placed horses, as well as the MPR-owned Bobby Bennu, to win comfortably by ½ length. David Loughnane spoke to the Racing Post after the race: “I'm over the moon. I'd been wanting to get LEXINGTON JET around Chester for quite a while and he got balloted out of about three races at the May meeting. His best form for us had come around Chelmsford and I just felt going to a similar type of turning track would really play to his strengths. It was a great front-running ride from Silvestre and he's a tough, hardy horse."
