Winner 49 of 2025: SHABU SHABU, trained by James Ferguson and ridden by Saffie Osborne. The ‘Betting.bet Betting Handicap’ over 1m 3½ f at Yarmouth.
There were warming scenes in Yarmouth’s winners enclosure despite it being a breezy and rather chilly Sunday. After banging on the door for a few runs now, Shabu Shabu got off the mark in authoritative style after a brilliant ride from Saffie Osborne at Yarmouth. It was an even start in the 4-runner-race, but our jockey made good use of him, let him find his rhythm and disputed the lead after a furlong. The pair dictated the race from the front and turning for home Shabu Shabu increased the pace to instantly secure a three lengths gap and never met another rival in the home straight. A well-judged front running ride from Saffie and a more than deserved first victory for our 3-year-old. Well done to James and his owners, who allowed him to grow and mature into a beautiful specimen.

A delighted Saffie Osborne spoke to our owners after the race: "It was all very straightforward. He jumped well and we didn't go very quick, so I was quite happy to let him find a nice rhythm and stride on to dispute the lead. He showed a fantastic attitude and I felt he really enjoyed being ridden so positively. I never really had to encourage him to quicken, he very much took me through the race and was incredibly honest, but is also still learning on the job. A great victory, well done to everyone involved."
