Ooh, Ooh, Ustath!

Thu 21 Jul 2022

WINNER 83 OF 2022: USTATH, trained by Roger Fell and ridden by Jonny Peate (-5): The 'Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Handicap,' over 6f at Southwell.

He was 2nd at Hamilton 6 days ago and the keen eyed fancied him to go one better; so he headed the market. He always breaks well and did so once again, from the centre of the pack and so Jonny was able to bring him across. They disputed the lead and by halfway, he was in front. Shaken up 2f out, he kept on well and pulled away to win by 2 and a 1/2 lengths.

In his post race interview, with Sky Sports Racing, Jonny said: "He is pretty straightforward and I was lucky enough to be in the saddle! He loves being in control and when the 2nd horse came to him, he dug in again."

Timeform rated it as a t65, saying: "Claimer ridden back on all-weather, built on good run last time to come out on top after just 6 days off; disputed lead, travelled best, went on halfway, ridden over 1f out, kept going well; this was his fourth course win, although 3 of them came on the old fibresand surface.”

Syndicate manager Mike says: "Well done to all his owners, lovely to see him win again. The flashy chestnut with the big white socks has been a fun horse for his owners since we bought him from the Owen Burrows yard - this was his 6th career win. He has been 2nd an amazing 9 times too! Thanks to Roger and the team and good to see Roger's apprentice Jonny, clock up another win for his CV.

A little like the Tour de France, MPR are having a 'rest day' on Thursday! We have no runners declared, so it's back on Friday with 5 runners, including COCO JACK, who makes his debut in our silks."
