Jubilation at York

Sat 09 Jul 2022

WINNER 70 OF 2022: THE PLATINUM QUEEN, trained by Richard Fahey and ridden by Oisin Orr: The Class 2 'William Hill Play Responsibly Irish EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes ' over 5f at York.

Our 'breeze up' daughter, by Cotai Glory, was having her third start and off a mark of 85. Partnered by stable jockey Oisin Orr, who rode her to victory on debut, she wore the red hood during the preliminaries, to keep her calm.

Drawn in 2 of 9, she was towards the centre of the track. As the gates opened, she flew out and for the first furlong, had another horse vying for the lead, but that didn't last long! She raced freely and was tanking along in front. Oisin gave the reins a shake 2f out and she went 3 lengths clear, keeping on well inside the final furlong, to win readily, by 3 and 3/4 lengths, with the favourite in 2nd.

"The Platinum Queen is much the best." Watch the full race replay here: https://www.racingtv.com/videos/watch/horse_racing_replays/399179-william-hill-play-responsibly-irish-ebf-fillies-novice-stakes-2

Timeform rated it as 98+ which is her best performance of her three starts, saying: "Showed improved form to make short work of the drop back in grade, able to show all her speed under a positive ride this time and looking too good for this level; soon led, went with zest, went clear 2f out, had plenty in hand; may do better still.”

Richard was in attendance, with many of her owners, who were ecstatic with her performance. He said in the interview with Racing TV after the race: "She's as quick as you will get - she's lightning! Oisin let her use herself, she then lengthened and quickened again. We have some exciting days ahead with her."

Syndicate manager Tom says: "All credit to Richard, who said that she should take this race in and we are all delighted with how she went about it. Well done to her owners and thank you to York for providing us with plenty of badges yesterday. Racing at York is always competitive and to win there is hard, but for her to takes this Class 2 race like that is rather pleasing!

Richard also mentioned in his interview, about her possible next race and this morning we had a chat and have decided that we will target her next at the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes at the Qatar Goodwood Festival. This race usually takes place on the Wednesday, Sussex Stakes day and is over 5 furlongs for 2 year-olds. She is our 10th 2yo winner and good to get number 70 for the year in style!"
