Here come the girls

Winner 30 of 2026: SAFFRON DANDY, trained by Richard Hannon, and ridden by Sean D Bowen. The ‘BetMGM AWC 3 Year Old Trial Handicap’ over 6f at Lingfield.

Very talented as an early 2-year-old, she won her debut impressively, but needed some time off in the autumn, which allowed her to grow and mature before she made her presence felt in a 3-year-old handicap at Wolverhampton in January.

With huge prize money on offer, the race looked competitive beforehand, but the 2024 British Champion Apprentice Sean D Bowen gave her a brilliant and confident ride. He got our daughter of the late Dandy Man to a great start and settled her in box seat, just behind the leading pair, before switching her towards the far side rail when turning for home. Once she disputed the lead, Saffron Dandy always looked in demand and won a shade cosy. Huge well done to her owners, a strong performance from our filly.

Timeform rated her back-to-back victory with a p86: "Followed up from last time to cause an even bigger shock in this higher grade, taking her form up another notch, but there's no denying that this saw her to better effect than several of those in behind; prominent, ridden over 2f out, led inside final 1f, always holding on."

Winner 31 of 2026: ZIGGY’S QUEEN, trained by Richard Fahey and ridden by Ethan Tindall (5). The ‘BetMGM AWC Fillies And Mares Trial Handicap’ over 7f at Lingfield.

She has been the Queen of consistency this winter, with two wins and three podium finishes from her last 5 runs since December. She deserves that title.

It was her first attempt over the longer trip, with the stalls’ gods being very unkind to our daughter of Invincible Spirit, as she was drawn extremely wide in 10. Ethan, though, knows her very well and sat last but one in the 11-runner field, tracking the pace. Ziggy's Queen really picked up in style when seeing daylight inside the final furlong, running down the eventual second and longtime leader to take the fillies and mares’ contest. A perfectly timed ride.

A huge run from our now 5-year-old, now a 4-time winner, and well done to all the team at Musley Bank, who have her in fine shape all winter.

A great team effort.

Listen to an overjoyed Ethan Tindall:

Timeform rated her victory with a p81+: "Has been on her game all winter but found the longer trip and first-time hood bringing out the best of her, again looking hesitant when coming under pressure but producing a rarely seen turn of foot to pull the race out of the fire; patiently ridden, still plenty to do home turn, carried head awkwardly early in straight, switched entering final 1f, quickened to lead line."
