WINNER 75 OF 2022: AMALFI SALSA, trained by Marco Botti and ridden by Morgan Cole (-5): 'The Corona Cero Apprentice Handicap ' over 1m at Chelmsford.
The market ahead of this contest, kept changing - she was 2nd over course and distance at Chelmsford in February and yet was drawn poorly on the outer in 12 for this race, so that was a negative.
As the gates opened, she wasn't the quickest away and so Morgan took her across and just accepted where they landed, in rear. Still out the back at the 3-pole, with plenty to do, as they came around the bend, Morgan switched her right. 2-furlongs out, she had all but 2 horses to pass, but made good headway and kept on strongly, taking the lead towards the finish to win by 1 and 1/2 lengths.

Timeform rated it as a p61 saying: "Back on all-weather, ran up to best to belatedly open her account; dwelt, in rear, settled better than is often the case (went a little in snatches if anything), came wide early in straight, stayed on to lead final 50 yds, helped by being held up in a strongly-run race.”
Morgan, who is based at Marco's yard, said in her Racing TV interview: "Ideally, I wanted to be on the front end, but they went hard, so I slotted her in. I knew that she would keep galloping and she won going away.”

Syndicate manager Tim says: "Well done to her owners, lovely seeing some of them in the winners enclosure taking their snaps of her! That was a good ride by Morgan; she didn't panic and timed her drive perfectly. Amalfi Salsa has been pretty consistent, without getting her head in front and so I am delighted that she has rewarded her syndicate's patience. 75 winners for the year is yet another milestone for us in 2022 and we must thank our owners for their wonderful messages of gratitude that we are receiving.”
