Another Winning Double!

Thu 13 Jul 2023

WINNER 62 OF 2023: DEFYING ORDERS, trained by Archie Watson and ridden by Hollie Doyle: 'The At The Races App Expert Tips Nursery ' over 6f at Lingfield.

A nursery debut for the daughter of Soldier's Call and a first time over 6f. A poor draw in 1 made worse when Sky Sports Racing's Freddy Tylicki commented "You don't get many 2 year-old winners from stall 1 here" in the build up to the race!

Held up off the pace towards the rear, she made good headway out wide over 2f out. Hollie asked her to quicken and she responded nicely to take the lead inside the final furlong. Keeping on well, to win by 1 and 3/4 lengths.

Timeform rated it as a career best 77+ performance, saying: "Was making handicap debut and showed much improved form upped slightly in trip to get off the mark after 5 weeks off; in rear, good headway down centre of track over 2f out, led under 2f out, pushed along soon after, kept on well inside final 1f, ridden out; she's in top hands and open to further improvement.”

Hollie told us, after the race: "She jumped fine, but they went so quick so we were at the rear, but at halfway she grabbed onto the bridle and took me there, quickening away."

Syndicate manager Tom says: "Well done to her owners - that was pleasantly surprising from that draw! It ended up being a bit of a pace burn up and she showed a wonderful attitude in the final furlong. A great ride by Hollie who we congratulate on her treble on the day. Archie and I have a race in mind for her next start which I have passed on to her owners and this could be the first of a few wins for her.”

WINNER 64 OF 2023: MOTAWAAFEQ, trained by Mick Appleby and ridden by Alistair Rawlinson: 'The Unibet Horserace Betting Operator of the Year Handicap' over 1m at Kempton.

He has had a 65 day break and was clearly happy to be back at the races, as he broke smartly and was soon in the lead. Taking a keen hold, he was bowling along by a good margin, but a challenge came 2f out. Although his lead was much reduced, he found more and ran on inside the final furlong to win by 1 and a 1/4 lengths.

Ali said: "I was surprised they left me alone. I was expecting someone to come to my girths which would have lit us up. However it was fairly straightforward, I just let him bowl away and he kept on well when the horse came to me in the straight.”

Timeform rated it as a p74 performance, saying: "Resumed winning ways having been given some respite by the handicapper, better drawn to attack this time and going with plenty of enthusiasm after 9 weeks off, always in command; made all, raced freely, went clear 5f out, pushed along 2f out, kept going well.”

Syndicate manager Tim says: "I spotted this race in the fixture book as the perfect target for him and so it's satisfying when a plan comes together! A second course and distance win, he just wasn't for catching. Congratulations to his owners - there aren't many horses who win 7 races, so he has been a grand servant."
