A Winning Double at Carlisle

Tue 14 Jun 2022

WINNER 59 OF 2022: MONSIEUR KODI, trained by Richard Fahey and ridden by Jack Garritty: 'The Watch Race Replays at racingtv.com Handicap (Div 1)' over 6f at Carlisle.

Lightly campaigned and the only 3 year-old in the race, he was upped to 6f for his second start of the year. Breaking nicely, he tracked the leaders on the inner. Jack switched him left to find the gaps and then asked him to quicken from 2f out. Taking the lead 1f from home, he faced a strong challenge from the joint favourite that came there on the bridle in the final 110yds. He was headed, but kept on towards the finish, to win by a head, for his 4th career win.

Timeform rated it as a career best 71, saying: "Stepped up on reappearance run as he became the fourth next-time-out winner from that race, proving himself at this trip in the process; in touch, pushed along under 2f out, led 1f out, tackled final 100 yds, responded well; he's still unexposed.”

Jack said in his Racing TV interview: "He stuck his head down and battled on well. Hopefully he can progress from that now.”

Syndicate manager Tom says: "Congratulations to his owners. The step up to 6f helped and he enjoyed the quicker surface. He should remain competitive, as it's all coming together with him. Well done to Richard and the Musley Bank team on their double at the track.”

WINNER 60 OF 2022: END ZONE, trained by Roger Fell and ridden by Ben Curtis: 'The Cockermouth Handicap' over 1m at Carlisle.

Chalked up as favourite, he was a little slow into stride, but soon settled into midfield. Coming around the bend, Ben pushed him along and he made good headway to lead 1f out. In front coming home, he faced a challenge on his outer, but he kept on well, to win by 3/4 of a length.

"Driven out, its End Zone that takes the finale-Middleham Park with a double on the day." Watch the full race replay here: https://www.racingtv.com/videos/watch/horse_racing_replays/395569-cockermouth-handicap-qualifier-5

Timeform rated it as an 82 performance, saying: "Without the headgear this time, came in for a more measured ride than at Thirsk and turned in best effort of the season to capitalise on a mark just 1 lb higher than for last success; dwelt, mid-field, ridden 3f out, stayed on to lead over 1f out, tackled final 1f, found extra.”

Syndicate manager Mike says: "Well done to his owners on his win and to Ben on his double! He ground it out well and was very resolute when the Gemma Tutty horse came to him. Carlisle obviously suits him, as that's his 2nd win there.”

That was our 5th double of the year. It was so nearly a treble, maybe even a quatruple!! ABSOLUTE QUEEN (shares available,) ran superby on debut to be a closing 2nd at Nottingham and KODIAS SANGARIUS, was closing down on the winner at Windsor too, taking 2nd place.

Incredible to have reached 60 winners for the year, when last year, we reached that level in August! The prize money totals too are heading nicely towards the magic million. Thanks to our trainers for working so closely with our syndicate managers, we have managed to achieve a 34% strike rate of runners to have won or placed 2nd. Thanks too, of course to our wonderful owners and their support and messages too...
