Curragh - THE TATTERSALLS IRISH 2000 GUINEAS
From the Arqana sale in France, this colt is by the Coolmore Stallion STARSPANGLEDBANNER: https://coolmore.com/stallions/starspangledbanner. He is 'French Owner Premiums' qualified.
The post sale report read: "Lot 204, an athletic, flashy individual by Starspangledbanner will go into training with Classic-winning trainer, Hugo Palmer. This cracking individual is out of a winning half-sister to G3-placed What Style and is from the family of G1 winners SHOLOKHOV, INTENSE FOCUS and SKITTER SCATTER. Hugo has had a lot of success with progeny of Starspangledbanner including Criterion Stakes (G3) winner HOME OF THE BRAVE."
Hugo Palmer has very quickly established himself alongside Newmarket’s elite trainers, having being catapulted there, by horses such as the Classic winning GALILEO GOLD, GIFTED MASTER, KOROPICK, MOOTASADIR, NEVER BACK DOWN, ESCOBAR and of course, the Group 1 placed HOME OF THE BRAVE.
Home Of The Brave, the 116 rated, winner of £494,000 in prize money, is, of course, by the super sire STARSPANGLEDBANNER and ever since his successes, Hugo has been looking for a replacement for him, by the same sire. In Hugo’s words, “I’ve desperately been trying to buy another Starspangledbanner, but I’ve never been able to get near one, on my budget.” So you can imagine Hugo’s delight in being able to secure, from the Boutique Arqana August Sale, where only the very best of French bred yearlings are presented for sale, this gorgeous chestnut son of STARSPANGLEDBANNER (Home Of The Brave was himself a chestnut colt).
He hails from a fabulous family, laden with quality individuals and he’s a half brother to a winner who is rated 97 no less. You only have to take a brief look at this colt’s photos and videos, to see he oozes quality and he has quite exceptional looks and moves like a dream.
Pedigree Update (November 2019): The Racing Post reported: "Starspangledbanner, sire of another crack juvenile in Cheveley Park Stakes winner Millisle, has had his stallion fee promoted to €22,500."
Here is Hugo talking about him in a 'virtual stable tour:'
Training Update: A giant of a Flat horse. He’s already listed placed, from just 2 runs to date, having won on debut. He’s open to any amount of improvement as he develops physically. He’ll probably start off in the Listed Feilden Stakes at Newmarket in April. It’s where we started off our St Leger runner up Ventura Storm, who won the race. He looks to have the World at his feet, as he matures and goes slightly up in trip. He’s the sort of horse who you could easily see winning Group races, next season, and who knows, whether they’ll be Group 3, Group 2 or Group 1? TIMEFORM RATED: 99
