Race entries

The multiple Champion Trainer, Paul Nicholls OBE, rang us regarding a “rather special horse" that he has acquired, in a once raced, unbeaten gelding by the name of TANGO TARA, by the 11-Time Champion National Hunt sire Kayf Tara.

Paul and ace bloodstock agent Tom Malone, bought him from the Goffs, Yorton sale. Paul’s call to our National Hunt Manager, Tom Palin, was prompted by a piece of work he’d performed on the Ditcheat gallops. A piece of work which caused Paul to become “very excited.” Then again, you would expect that from a horse who clocked the fastest time of the day and a time 14 seconds faster than average, in winning his Irish P2P, which you can see here (he is in the purple colours.)

Here is the Irish point to point review of him: “Hailing from the same yard as the black type winners such as Marias Benefit, Israel Champ and Eden Du Houx, Tango Tara proved himself to be an ultra-tough performer by winning at Ballindenisk in late November. The Cork venue is a real test of a horse, particularly one having its debut, and so you would have to be really impressed with the winning attitude that this son of Kayf Tara produced. Always towards the fore, he hit the front on jumping the second last, and it was particularly taking to see that when the game runner-up attempted to come back at him at the final fence, he picked up on the climb for home to win going away at the line in a time some 14 seconds quicker than the day’s average and the quickest on the card. A price tag of €72,000 from the store sales says it all about the model of a horse that he is and he has now backed that up at the first time of asking on the track.”

Given Paul knew we were still looking for the right horse to team up with him, he rang our National Hunt manager Tom, to recommend that we take a look at this horse. We were not disappointed with what we saw from this impressive individual. As a specimen, he is 16.2hh, with a wonderfully willing attitude, and a jumping ability way beyond his years and a pedigree ladened with black type performers.

Here he is parading at Ditcheat:

Racing Update (January): Recovered from a leg injury and made a more than pleasing return to the racetrack last time out, with a view to him running again in early February and throughout the Spring. His race entries/declarations, will show on this page.
