There has probably been no better, or more prominent breakthrough trainer than Newmarket’s George Boughey in recent years, be it 2yo’s or horses in training, he seems to improve horses to achieve well above their station, so who better to send out latest acquisition to, than the trainer of the moment?
We have purchased this beautiful 3yo filly from members of the extended Coolmore team, whose highly exacting standards, have deemed Pretty Sweet as suitable to be moved on. Pretty Sweet posted a highly promising 2nd placing on debut over 1m 3.5f, the winner being a horse owned by The Queen and the 3rd horse owned by King Power, no less. She is by the sire of sires IFFRAAJ. His sons Ribchester and Wootton Bassett continuing the wonderfully talented blood line. Pretty Sweet posted some very strong closing fractions, having ran a little green early, finding herself positioned poorly at halfway. The closing sectionals were 105%, which means it was a fairly slowly run affair and they sprinted for home, quickly, meaning the worst place to be positioned would be near the rear. It’s to Pretty Sweet’s great credit that she could even mount a challenge, late on, to the winner.
Watch the full race replay here: https://www.attheraces.com/racecard/Bath/23-June-2021/1850 - you can hear the commentator (although he calls her Pretty Smart not Pretty Sweet!) say, as she crosses the line:"She has run with an abundance of promise on debut."
Timform gave her a 77p and say: "Sister to very smart winner up to 9f (Mufarrh) bred to stay well on dam's side of pedigree, showed plenty to work on; dwelt, raced off the pace, headway halfway, ridden over 2f out, edged left over 1f out, kept on; open to improvement."
She’s bound to improve on this debut and ought to stay further still; her dam won over 1m 4f and stayed 2m well. She should go on to be a very decent racehorse on the Flat, with a win looking almost a formality, in the short term. Her debut was just 2 weeks ago, so she’s fit and well and raring to go again now, just as soon as she’s settled into George’s Hamilton Road yard and is entered up to run.
Watch her parade at Tattersalls here:
The plan is to get her racing and winning for us this Summer with the possibility of selling her as a broodmare prospect at the December sales, with a winning and improved profile in place, for would-be breeders, looking in. We’d target black type races once she’s a winner to try to gain that, all important, black type for the paddocks. Out of a listed placed mare herself, she could make a whole heap more than the 27,000gns we’ve paid for her now. A backstop would be to sell her in foal at next July’s sale or race her in 2022 in black type races before selling in December 2022. She could prove lucrative if things pan out well. The very least we hope she’ll be, is a winning, fun horse for her syndicate to enjoy in 2021 and possibly 2022.
She looks full of untapped potential, remains in the “could be anything, still” category and looks destined for an exciting career.
Trainer Update (9th July): George got in touch this morning to say that she has arrived safe and sound - well it is only down the road from Tattersalls after all! He says "Here’s a photo of PRETTY SWEET (her main image.) My plan is to give her an easy two weeks. A big angle of ours was that she has achieved plenty and could look a lot better. She is likely to do well for a short break before pressing on again with her."
