Race entries

We go back a long way with Adrian Nicholls, from times when he we had up to 20 horses in training with his late father, Dandy. He rode dozens and dozens of winners for us, names like Fremen, Abbondanza, Victoire De Lyphar, Blackheath, Something, Royal Dignitary, American Cousin, Fol Hollow and Magic Casement, to name but a few. He was a very shrewd tactician in a race, derived, most probably, from his very shrewd father, so when he turned his hand to training, from his Dad’s old base near Sessay, Thirsk, we weren’t at all surprised to see him make a great fist of it. We’ve watched his runners, very carefully, over the last 12 months and been most impressed by his strike rate, race placement and attention to detail.

We asked Adrian to get in touch if a talented, racy 2yo became available and he’s come up trumps, here, with this Coolmore bred, son of the French 2000 Guineas and Sussex Stakes winner, The Gurkha.

  • Dual Group 1 wining miler (Sussex Stakes, French 2000 Guineas)
  • Won French 2000 Guineas decisively (5 1/2 lengths)
  • Won his Sussex Stakes in a quicker time than Kingman and both Frankel’s wins
  • First crop included the German Champion 2 yo (Best of Lips)
  • He’s by Galileo (Coolmore bred)
  • He’s out of a Group 3 winning 2yo by Danehill Dancer
  • From the family of champion sire Green Dancer
  • Joint Champion 3yo miler in Europe in 2016
  • Close 2nd in both the Coral-Eclipse and St James’ Palace
  • Earned just under £1 million in prize money (£996,217)

Read more about his sire here:

He’s from a family, jam-packed with black type performers, as you would expect from a Coolmore bred horse. He’s a FULL BROTHER to an 88 rated filly in France, who looks to be going the right way, so who knows where her Coolmore genes will take her; the same applies to this fellow too....dare we suggest? The horse comes highly recommended by Adrian’s contacts, who sent him two horses last season, both of whom proved to be very talented and both were winners.

He is a beautiful stamp of a horse, chestnut in colour, with a good walk, fluid movement and some real presence about him, as you can see here:

He had been prepped in France, for the Osarus Breeze Ups and has been going particularly well in his work, Adrian informs us. We’ve managed to step in at just the right time to secure a private purchase, prior to the sale. He’s a perfect opportunity for anyone wishing to visit the winners’ enclosure (hopefully) who is operating on a reasonable/sensible budget, or looking to extend their MPR portfolio, rather inexpensively.

Pedigree Update (June 14th): A GROUP 2 win for the sire!

Here he is (nearside) having a nice breeze through, with another, unraced 2yo:
