Purchased at the Tattersalls Cheltenham Sale, we are thrilled to have our first horse, in this form of this young exciting son of Mount Nelson, with multiple Grade 1 winning trainer COLIN TIZZARD.
NELSONS ROCK made a very favourable impression when winning his four-year-old maiden at Tinahely in October last year, getting off the mark at the third time of asking and the five-year-old once again returned to the scene of his four-year-old success to record back-to-back successes for Wexford-based handler Mick Goff. The bay gelding made much of the running in the second half of the contest under a positive ride which saw him press on over the downhill fences on the final two circuits to increase the tempo. Once meeting the hill in the home straight on the final circuit, he kicked clear and was soon in command, ultimately crossing the line with eight lengths to spare. (See the race video in the gallery.)
The Racing Post were suitably impressed too (the link to his Racing Post profile is included on this profile page.) He’s been awarded a Racing Post Rating, for his 8 lengths victory in his 'Winners Of One' race, of a very tasty 92. Given the likes of Bacardys and Topofthegame (both subsequent Grade 1 festival winners) were awarded ratings of 93 and 94 respectively for their Point To Point victories, you can clearly see the sort of impression Nelsons Rock has made.
Out of a five-time winning mare Neardown Beauty, who is a half-sister to five-time track winner El Senador, this son of Mount Nelson seems to be a versatile gelding, who looks to have the potential to develop into a smart track performer that can further add to this winning family.
He’s looks an exceptionally bright, young prospect, for the Tizzards to work their magic with. He was ready to make his Bumper debut in the spring, but then the lock down was introduced, so he probably would have won that by now, but instead he has had a good break and he has grown and done well in that time.
We caught up with Colin and Joe at Doncaster sales and they were very excited about getting him out. Just before the halt to racing Joe rode him himself to see what there was there and he was delighted with him and is expecting him to be a very smart horse. He's already a DUAL point to point winner so as you can imagine we are very excited about seeing him on the course.
The plan is to run him in bumpers and of course, his career ‘proper’ will begin in the Winter, as the sky could be limit, once using his jumping assets, that he’s clearly shown, in his two time winning, Point To Point career.
Training Update: All is good with him. Colin has upped his work and he is now ready to Nelsons Rock and Roll! All being well, we should be ready to see him debut for us in December.
Being a dual P2P winner, the World’s his oyster under the Tizzard tutelage. Very exciting indeed. His race entries/declarations will show on this page.
Here's a video of him cantering away:
