Purchased at the Tattersalls Cheltenham Sale for £50,000, NELSONS ROCK made a very favourable impression when winning his four-year-old maiden at Tinahely, getting off the mark at the third time of asking and the five-year-old once again returned to the scene of his four-year-old success to record back-to-back successes for Wexford-based handler Mick Goff. The bay gelding made much of the running in the second half of the contest under a positive ride which saw him press on over the downhill fences on the final two circuits to increase the tempo. Once meeting the hill in the home straight on the final circuit, he kicked clear and was soon in command, ultimately crossing the line with eight lengths to spare. (See the race video in the gallery.)
Out of a five-time winning mare Neardown Beauty, who is a half-sister to five-time track winner El Senador, this son of Mount Nelson seems to be a versatile gelding, who looks to have the potential to develop into a smart track performer that can further add to this winning family.
Racing Update: Been off with a pelvic injury, but back right as rain now. A comfortable, last time out winner, he’s still very much unexposed over fences and could easily make up into a Saturday horse. Stays ALL day and jumps for fun. Ready to rock n roll. His race entries/declarations will show on this page. TIMEFORM RATED: C110:H105:
