Milton Harris is so shrewd at spotting high class talent, acquiring it for very sensible prices and nurturing it into fruition. We purchased Mordred and Milton sent him to race at St Moritz, where he won 2 Conditions races and was 2nd in a local Group 2 on the snow. He has also now won over hurdles and fences, so Milton knows what he is doing!

Given all Milton achieved last season, including Grade 1 Aintree success, until very recently, the most expensive horse in his string was the £42,000 purchase Mullenberg. He’s built his career on a budget, endeavouring to hunt out a bargain. Milton purchased the listed winner Mullenberg from the same connections as this particular individual (there’s a clue in the similarities of the names, of course).

We think that Milton’s shrewd purchasing prowess, is precisely what he’s demonstrated here. Mullinaree was a £23,000 purchase from The Goffs Uk Sale, having finished a very respectable 3rd, behind our very own Copshill Lad at Stratford, last time out.

To date, Mullinaree has achieved plenty, in finishing 3rd on 3 occasions, yet given he was owned, prior to the sale, by an offshoot of the Coolmore team, with their highly ambitious expectations of their horses, he just didn’t quite make the cut to remain  part of their illustrious team, hence, he was sent to the sales.

Milton is of the opinion, in talking to the previous connections, that this horse can make up into a 130-140 rated chaser, over a distance of ground, and that’s precisely what we’ll endeavour to deliver over the course of the next 2 or 3 seasons.

Bred in the purple, being by Kayf Tara, out of a Kapgarde mare, and still only a 6yo, he’s going to be a really exciting addition to the MPR, National Hunt ranks. He’s the sort of horse who we could target at Saturday handicaps and depending on what his distance turns out to be, over hurdles and fences, he could well be a candidate for some of the satellite Nationals, that are becoming increasingly popular.

Milton has given him a break after the sale and we’ll see him heading over hurdles just as soon as the Jumps’ Season gets going properly, in October time. We can’t wait.

Here he is looking well (20th September):

He’s definitely talented, open to any amount of improvement and we think has a lot of potential.

Milton says: "I am really pleased to have Mullinaree. He's finished a very promising 3rd behind our very good horse Copshill Lad: who we certainly have high regard for. He was very 'busy' on the day and he needed a break. I think that we have bought him very cheaply and I am really pleased to have him. I can recommend him to your clients."
