Race entries

From the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up Sale, we welcome Mark Loughnane to our trainers' roster, with a filly out of a mare that has produced 6 winners and is by the sire of the 111 rated GO BEARS GO, in KODI BEAR.

We loved this filly, from the moment we saw her breeze on the Tuesday morning, then fell in love again when we viewed her back at the sales’ arena and we were mad keen to secure her services in the auction. She timed beautifully too.

If you watch her breeze video back, you can see that she’s a tiny bit late to get going, not quite striding out at the point she passes the first-time sensor devices. As a direct result, her first furlong, didn’t set the clock watchers’ pulses racing and has meant that despite her latter two fractions both being in the top half dozen or so, of the almost 200 breezer cohort, her overall finishing position, due to her missing the beat at the start, has taken her off many clock watchers’ lists. To succeed in this game, you have to unearth an angle, unless you’re blessed with the deepest of deep pockets, and with this filly’s times’ vagary, we’re very confident that’s what we’ve done.

When we went to view her, post breeze, it’s fair to say we fell in love. She’s a beautiful horse with a prowly swagger as she walks. Her gaits are probably her biggest assets. We think she knows she’s good.

She has a great physique; is athletic but well built, sharp looking, yet scopey and room for improvement too. She’s by a young stallion who’s really been making a mark for himself, having already sired classic placed horses and this filly’s dam has already produced a 104 rated performer. You’d very much hope that in combining our sire, dam, physique and breeze, that we’ve got a very potent cocktail to go to war with.

The vendor and her new trainer are both of the opinion that we can be running her in just a couple of weeks’ time, certainly this side of Royal Ascot, and dare we believe to dream, of black type success? Why not, if she’d hit that first time sensor at full pelt, we’d be talking double the 47,000gns that it took to buy her.

In the sales ring itself, we found ourselves bidding against an old friend and co-owner of ours, Kulbir Sohi, so we’ve agreed to share the horse with him and, between us, we’ve decided to send the horse to Mark Loughnane. We’ve been looking to place a horse with Mark, for around 2years, so this just seemed the perfect fit for us all.

If she could be Kodi Bear’s next Classic placed horse, we be delighted, and we’d have plenty of fun getting there, along the way. Let the journey begin!

Racing Update: Nothing seemed to go right for her last season, her 2yo year. Having breezed fantastically well, in a really good time, she just had one niggle after another. Initially it was a foot problem, which she put behind her and we were able to get to the track, where she never really showed what we’d seen at the Breeze Ups nor what we’d seen at home. Her season was finished when she cracked a rib, and it took a fair time to get over that. Anyway, she’s right as rain now and hopefully, we can make up for last time. All the numbers we have to hand suggest she’s a filly who is capable of performing to a rating in the mid 80’s. Her race entries/declarations, will show on this page.

Here's the latest video of her at home (5th April):
