You have to be very on the ball when trying to buy Irish Point to Point winners, they are very hard to source, if you are looking for real quality. We've asked a few contacts to keep an eye out for a potentially top class Point to Point winning mare, with the aim of competing in top class mares' only races at the big National Hunt Festivals for us. Tom Malone, the ace NH agent, responsible for sourcing Native River, Finian's Oscar, Black Corton. Wakanda, Modus, Posh Trish, Capitaine and many more (see the image of his credentials in the gallery) and he has absolutely come up trumps for us, with this fantastically well-bred daughter of GETAWAY, who just happens to be a half-sister to the 158 'best RPR' rated FOX APPEAL. As a noteworthy update this week, the last horse that Tom Malone sourced for us was LEGAL HISTORY, who we purchased at Tattersalls in November and he is already a dual winner over hurdles, earning more than the sum we paid for him and is very much on the up.

Tom has numerous contacts in Ireland who keep him abreast of all the best Point to Pointers and we were thrilled when Tom contacted us to advise us that he thought he'd found the perfect mare to fulfil our requirements. We had to act really quickly to secure this gorgeous mare privately, to beat off plenty of opposition. Her pedigree, her athletic looks, her jumping ability and her stamina stand her in fabulously good stead  and physically, she looks the sort who can strengthen up still further, with age, which could bring out significant improvement too.

There's a fantastic programme of races for mares these days, with some outstanding prize money attributed to them.

Training Update: She looks destined to win, anytime soon. We bought her, having won her P2P in Ireland, so anything she does over hurdles is a bonus, as they say. She’s done nothing but improve, since we’ve stepped her up in trip. We’re still working out her optimum, underfoot conditions. Syndicate manager Tom says: "A fine run from her on Monday, to take 3rd, given she was only 20 days removed from a fall, when looking up to win. If you can be happy that you were beaten at least it when it’s the front two in the market you know you were beaten by the right horses. It was great to see her back travelling so well in the race and her jumping was superb, it’s a huge credit to her that she left the fall behind her and not have a bother on her, that fall would have left it’s mark on a lot of horses. I can’t imagine that the handicapper will be getting carried away next Tuesday, he will likely leave her alone I would suggest. There is a mares 0-120 over 2 miles 6 furlongs mares only at Fontwell on the 28th December (she has had a couple of quick runs so the month gap would be perfect) is probably where we will head with her next. She has come out of the race very well but we will just give her a quiet week to top the tank back up and work back from the date above." TIMEFORM RATED: Hurdle 111.
