The Irish Point To Point scene has proven such a happy hunting ground for sourcing top class talent in recent years - Jonbon, Shishkin, Bravemansgame, A Plus Tard to name but a few, so we’re thrilled to add the winning Irish Point To Pointer DENEMETHY, by the great FLEMENSFIRTH, to our National Hunt ranks.

Denemethy's victory over 3m at Knockanard, was awarded a very lofty Racing Post rating of 91:

He did it the hard way too, making all and fending off all challengers to win by 4 lengths, going away. There’s a definite correlation between Pointers who are awarded ratings of 90+ and their going on to much bigger and better things. Horses achieving a Racing Post P2P rating of 70’s and 80’s, understandably, are perceived to have achieved less in their respective performances and as a rule of thumb tend to achieve less, under National Hunt rules proper, subsequently.

Not only did Denemethy post a lofty performance on the book, but we’re led to believe from his owner/trainer Jonathan Fogarty, that 3 miles around a tight P2P circuit, most definitely, isn’t Denemethy playing at home. It’s Johnny’s opinion that, the further he goes, the better light he’ll be seen in. “He’s a thorough stayer and he’ll improve physically too, as he matures. The further he goes, the better he’ll go!”

We strongly suspect that we’ll only see the best of him in a year or two’s time, once he goes Novice Chasing, but if we can win Bumpers and Hurdles, along the way, that’d be a mighty fine bonus.

Watch him walk and trot, here:

Purchased from the Tattersalls Cheltenham Sale for £48,000, here are his catalogue page remarks: "A very progressive sort who has made the step up to winning at Knockanard by a smart four lengths. He had shown enough in his early starts to set out with conviction. He travelled very strongly out of the back straight and when asked for effort climbed the hill in good staying fashion. He is out of a sister to Petit Robin and from the family of Gold Cup placed Anibale Fly so he looks a fine staying chaser type for the future."

He is a huge stamp of a young horse; measuring in at 16.3hh, he’s all over a chaser in the making. We’re pretty sure that he’ll see out distances well in excess of 3m and we can envisage him having a long and illustrious career in big race, staying chases, the ‘Satellite Nationals’ as they’re called, around the likes of Uttoxeter, Warwick, Newbury etc and if we’re really lucky, he could easily shape up into a Scottish or Welsh National type. Should we really dare to dream, we could even consider the BIG one itself at Aintree. That’s a long way off, from where we are today, but don’t rule it out!

Here's Fergal, delighted with our new purchase!

He's a big athletic chasing type and there should be plenty of fun to be had!

Racing Update (18th November): Fergal was very pleased with his 2nd place in the Bumper at Carlisle last time out. Timeform commented: "Produced a promising first effort under Rules." See a new video of him schooling, below. Fergal has 3 hurdle races in mind for his next start at the beginning of December. His race entries/declarations will show on this page.
