Nicky Henderson fell in love with this BLUE BRESIL gelding at the sales and he was determined to bring him home to Seven Barrows. As Nicky says: “This horse came highly recommended by a vendor who is a fantastic judge. He’s a sensational mover on the lunge, and you have to love him, when you see him perform in there.”

He is a superb combination of strength and athleticism and he has a substantial physique that will be suited to all disciplines, but especially hurdling and chasing, in time. He’s a beautiful dark bay, who is so very easy on the eye, and he moves like a dream when walking, trotting and lunging. We can’t wait to see him cantering and galloping in due course, once he’s been broken in. He’ll move onto more serious work from October onwards at Seven Barrows and, best case scenario is, we’ll see him in a National Hunt Flat race in February, but more likely March or April.
This “store sales’ season” has proven fascinating, and we believe there has proven to be excellent value to be had through the ring, as vendors and consignors have been very realistic in their sales’ price expectations, in these difficult times. We believe he represents fantastic value.
He’s a half-brother, no less, to the hugely talented Grade 2 winner, HARAMBE, for Alan King. This gelding is such a strapping individual and taken from his sales’ prices alone, you can easily believe that this gelding is far and away the most talented, of the mare’s progeny to date, so, to suggest that this stunning individual, will prove a better proposition that his Grade 2 winning half-brother Harambe, remains a perfectly feasible concept to purvey.
He qualifies too, for the prestigious and very valuable, Land Rover bumper, held at the Punchestown Festival in the Spring of 2021; and, for the time being at least, we’ll work back from that initial, end of season target. He’s hugely exciting.
Our Nicky Henderson, Seven Barrows string has really taken a few boosts lately, from the Kim Muir 3rd, Premier Bond, through to the star, listed winning mare MARIE’S ROCK, who, prior to picking up a niggle in February last year, was a clear favourite for the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, no less. Nicky has some very exciting plans for her this coming season; as she has been given early closing entries at the 2021 Cheltenham Festival.

Training Update (15th January): All is good with him at Seven Barrows and has settled in well there. He is cantering up the all-weather each day and we have just about finished the routine fitness work with him and we’re about to enter the slightly more fun stage of upping him in the tempo of his work and giving him a little bit more to think about. This is really where a trainer earns their corn as it’s a balancing act between giving them questions to think about without going overboard and setting your horse back, luckily we have just about the best in the game at the helm!
