Belardo ex Escallonia filly
Training update (January 16th): We saw this filly at our owners '2yo parade' on Sunday. She is now completing two canters, starting to go upsides along with going in the arena and on the walker each day. She is a good ride and has been great to do everything with. See new videos and the team talking about her at the parade, below.
BIOGRAPHY: This Belardo filly was purchased at the Goffs Autumn Yearling Sale and will be trained by Alice Haynes.
This sale often offers some great value. Most agents and owners are attending, or focusing on, The Breeders’ Cup and/or The Melbourne Cup, which leaves a lovely window of opportunity for those remaining on these shores. Those who pay close attention to this week’s sale, have the opportunity to, hopefully, unearth a bargain - we hope that’s what we’ve achieved.
On a separate tack, sales’ houses are brilliant at positioning yearlings at the right sale eg the best pedigrees and best individuals are presented at the earlier, sexier sales, where pretty much everyone attends. What can slip through though their cataloguing strategy, however, is a lovely individual, whose pedigree hasn’t yet taken off, or is slightly unfashionable - a niche that befits this particular filly, we believe.
We’re BIG fans of BELARDO (our own listed performer - Lexington Belle) but he’s not the most fashionable, which partly accounts for this wonderful filly’s presence in this catalogue. In addition, since publication of the catalogue, the mare’s second progeny HEDGE FUND’s form has really taken off (see the gallery) - he’s now a two time winner & listed performer having finished 4th in the 1000m Criterium de Vitesse at Deauville in France. He’s officially rated 90 - that simply wouldn’t have been on any sales house’s radar when allocating catalogue positions in June-time of this year. We’re very hopeful we’ve unearthed a nugget.
She looks a first half of the season horse - a 5f or 6f April or May debutante and qualifies for the £250,000 Weatherbys Super Sprint in July, which would be under serious consideration.
An exciting filly on a very sensible, very affordable, budget.
She qualifies for the €10,000 'IREIncentive bonus'
*Pedigree updates: Half brother: My Captain (IRE) winner in Italy since publication. Half brother: Hedge Fund (IRE) winner since publication; also 4th Critérium de Vitesse, L.
