Undoubtedly, one of Newmarket’s most up and coming trainers, is George Boughey. He’s slightly set the racing world alight with his impressive strike rate; he’s now trained over 100 winners in just 2 years with a licence and he has earned a reputation for being able to find colts and fillies which excel in their 2yo season, whilst retaining all their enthusiasm and ability through their 3yo careers. A fantastic win for him in the 1,000 Guineas this season has earnt him plenty of well deserved praise.
We’ve enjoyed a 100% winners to individual runners, strike rate, already, with George, courtesy of our 27,000gns purchase PRETTY SWEET, getting off the mark on her second run for George and ourselves and who could just be destined to sneak some, all important, black type for us, at some juncture.
On the back of this success, we’ve decided to try to send George, what we like to call “a horse with elite potential”, meaning that by spending a little extra on a quality individual, with a strong pedigree, where there’s no compromise whatsoever, in pursuit of potential achievement at an elite level of racing. This filly oozes class and to be frank, she was our favourite filly in the sale, that would be available, on a middle market budget (€75,000-€150,000).
Her sire ZOFFANY, sadly died last year. He was the sire of our Group 1 winner and St Leger 2nd placed VENTURA STORM, who is mentioned in this story about him: https://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/zoffany-dies-aged-13/
She possesses a fantastic pedigree, already being a sister to a black type performer, and her walk and demeanour simply cannot be faulted. She floats across the ground. Her consignors, Oghill House Stud, were very, very sweet on her, labelling her as “a filly with the greatest temperament, we’ve ever had.”
Now that’s some praise indeed, from people who have been in the game for decades. Where 2yo fillies are concerned, the importance of a good mindset, cannot be over stated.

*PEDIGREE UPDATE: 1st dam BEAT THE STARS (IRE): dam of Astral Beat (IRE) (19 c. by Cotai Glory (GB)): placed at 2, 2021.
She is entered for Europe's richest year-old race: 'The Goffs Million' which is exclusively for graduates of The Goffs Orby Sale. The 7f race, run at The Curragh, in September is a 7f race where the winner brings home a cool €500,000 and the 10th horse earns €10,000 no less. It’s a fantastic initiative and if she is of the quality of some of George Boughey’s previous, 2yo Group winning fillies, then we could be in some serious business, come race time 2022. Read about the race here: https://www.goffs.com/news/europes-richest-two-year-old-race-only-for-goffs-orby-yearlings.
Racing Update (19th July): 2nd, 3rd and 2nd on her first three starts, the Racing TV team commented that she has the size and scope to improve even more when she fills her frame, as she is a lovely big filly. George is just going to give her a little of time to strengthen up now after 3 quickish runs. The handicapper has given her a mark of 75 this morning which George thinks she's better than. We'll give her time to fill her frame now and let George give us the nod as to when he wants to start to look for races for her. Her race entries/declarations will show on this page.
