Mick Appleby has been involved with horse racing for nearly 30 years. Over these years, he has gained an enormous amount of experience and knowledge from his work with horses – both in training and horse management.

Mick was stable jockey for John Manners for 3 years, riding numerous winners. He left there to become head lad for Roger Curtis for a short period of time.

In 2008, Mick was offered a fantastic opportunity as head lad at Andrew Balding’s Kingsclere Stables. Here he worked with top-class horses, gaining much experience in all aspects of training race horses. In June 2010, Mick went out on his own for the remainder of the season, gaining 3 winners and a few placed horses. The 2011 season went successfully having 20 winners and numerous placed horses.

Throughout 2012 and 2013 Mick and his team continued building on their successes, with winners Louchantanks, The Lockmaster, Stellar Express, Demoraand Art Scholar –who landed the November Handicap. The yard carried on growing for the next few years and built up a great team of youth and experience. In 2014, Mick had his first Group Winner in Danzeno in the Group 3 Chip Chase at Newcastle.

Mick's main yard houses 66 stables, with a satellite yard just a short trot down the lane housing brand new stables. There are also undercover electric horse walkers, two lunge rings, an indoor school, equine therapy swimming pool, turn-out paddocks and one-mile round, all-weather polytrack gallops.

He was crowned Champion All-Weather Trainer, yet again in 2023, for the 7th time: https://www.racingpost.com/news/britain/it-gets-tougher-every-year-mick-appleby-claims-seventh-title-in-all-weather-championships-aLRrL3u1WPf2/

Mick says "Our ethos is to ensure that the welfare of our horses, staff and owners are of a high standard. You are assured a friendly, warm welcome here, safe in the knowledge that your horse is in very capable hands."
