Harry Charlton
Roger has been based at Beckhampton since 1978, where he was assistant to Jeremy Tree for 12 years. During those years Rainbow Quest, Danehill, Sharpo and Known Fact were in the yard.
In his first year in charge in 1990 he won the French and English Derby with Sanglamore and Quest for Fame. Since then Tamarisk, Patavellian, Tante Rose, Avonbridge, Cityscape, Thistle Bird, Al Kazeem, Quest for More and Decorated Knight have kept him at the top of the game.
Not only has he specialised in multiple stakes winning horses, horses under his care have also landed the prestigious The Old Newton Cup, The Zetland Gold Cup, The Magnet Cup, The Britannia, 2 King George V Handicap, The Duke of Edinburgh, 2 Cambridgeshires, 2 Bunbury Cups, 3 Totesport Miles, and 3 Stewards Cups.
The historic stables has extensice facilities, including two separate yards, two covered horsewalkers, a trotting ring and two all weather gallops (Polytrack – 6 furlongs, and woodchip – 7 furlongs).The grass gallops are extensive and range from short canters to a mile-and-a-half (Derby) Valley Gallop.
Son Harry takes over the licence at the end of the 2023 Flat season.
