Two yearlings purchased at the Tattersalls Book 1 sale

Tattersalls Book 1 Yearling sale is Europe’s most renowned sale for quality, with only the highest standard yearlings permitted to be sold in the ring. At the conclusion of the 2017 Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented: “To have broken so many records over the past three days reflects a catalogue of truly outstanding quality and a sale with a global reputation for producing exceptional racehorses year after year. Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale is widely regarded as Europe’s premier yearling sale, but even by Book 1 standards we felt that this year’s catalogue was a bit special. The sale has produced wide margin records across the board, and first and foremost we must pay tribute to the vendors who have allowed us to produce a truly vintage catalogue which has showcased so many of the finest yearlings to be found anywhere in the world. The quality of stallions currently standing in Europe is at an all time high and there is no doubt that the world’s leading buyers recognise this. They want quality and Book 1 of the 2017 October Yearling Sale had quality in abundance."
We are lucky to have secured two super juveniles, in the shape of a colt by IFFRAAJ and a filly by SIR PERCY. Both qualify for the ‘Book 1 Bonus’ scheme which means when either of them wins, their owners are entitled to not only the prize money on the day, but £25,000 extra. They are both also ‘Plus 10’ registered, which would add an additional £10,000 on top of the race prize money, meaning owners could recoup around £40,000 from a single win from an eligible race!
The Iffraaj colt is out of Reroute, by Acclamation and will be trained by MARK JOHNSTON. When dozens of horses were selling for over a million pounds, Mark Johnston has managed to secure on our behalf this fabulous, loose moving colt with real presence and a really strong pedigree to boot for £20,000 guineas. Mark has purchased just 4 horses at this sale in recent years, in 2015 and 2016. All four were winners of the £25,000 bonus attached to winners sold at this sale. The strong, scopey filly by Sir Percy, is out of a Hawk Wing mare, in Barawin for RICHARD FAHEY to train. Her dam has a perfect record with her foals; 3 winners from her 3 runners. This filly has size and substance and is a real powerhouse of a horse, but yet has the athletic, loose moving quality in her walk that we always look for here at MPR. We have won 28 2 year old races so far this year out of our total 78 winners, so last years purchases have been performing well on the racecourse so far. It was also timely that our 900th winner came from a 2 year old graduate of last years Book 1 sale in Ventura Royal!
