Roger has been a racehorse owner and enthusiast for many years and has enjoyed a great deal of success as an owner. His favourite horse has to be Smarty Socks but there have been many others. He purchased Arthington Barn Stables back in 2008 and since then has enjoyed tremendous success from the yard along with a number of different trainers holding the license.
Roger set up in partnership with David O'Meara in 2010 and all David's early successes, Penitent, Bajan Blue, G Force, Mondialiste etc. were trained from there. In the first half of this decade the partnership of Roger and David churned out winner after winner, including many Group performers; it was probably the north's biggest success story of the decade.
In 2016 Roger took over the license himself and with a team of dedicated staff and great facilities has already shown that winners will continue to come from this quality yard. Arthington Barn Stables is located just a few miles from Helmsley on the A170 Scarborough to Thirsk road in the village of Nawton. Set on the border of the North Yorkshire Moors it is the perfect location to train racehorses. The facilities provide a tranquil setting which gives all the horses the best chance to achieve their potential.
Take our own Burnt Sugar for example, he has been a revelation since we moved him to Roger's. A simple change of scenery and a new way of doing things has brought him back to approaching his best and winning in excess of £100,000 for his owners in the process!
