Ventura Rebel brings a smile to the faces of his syndicate
It is widely acknowledged within racing, that racehorse ownership should never be classed as an 'investment.' Our sport offers those lucky enough to become an owner; fun, excitement, endless adrenalin bursts as your horse leaves the starting stalls and the cachet of being 'in the paddock.'
We like to think that our 24 years as being a racehorse syndication company has brought plenty of smiles to our owners' faces as their horse passes the line first (all 1,032 of them!) However, the work that goes into supplying those winners for our syndicates starts early on at the yearling sales...
Days of studying catalogues of pedigree pages and inspecting yearlings, is all made worthwhile when within a year, the 'chosen' horse has won wearing our blue and orange silks. During a discussion about syndicates during 'Luck On Sunday' at the weekend, Harry Bentley was kind enough to say "Middleham Park buy the right horses" when Dave Yates remarked that "we were a very good syndicate."
At the sales, a good pedigree page alone does not make a good racehorse. What makes a good racehorse is a good page but ultimately the right conformation and for us, our eyes do the hard work before the horse enters the sales ring. Value has to be on the agenda too, as Tim explains: "There is no rhyme or reason behind where and when we stop bidding on any given horse other than what we value the horse at. One thing is for sure we will NEVER pay in excess of what we believe this true valuation to be. When purchasing, we have two rationales in mind; firstly, racecourse achievement is paramount - we are purchasing racehorses on behalf of our owners and only by purchasing the right individual will success ensue. Secondly, resale value, which means we can offer our owners the opportunity to sell MPR bloodstock at vastly increased prices over their initial purchases."
We have successfully delivered on this score time after time, with VENTURA REBEL yet another example of delivering a multiple six figure return for his syndicate. Purchased at the Tattersalls Ireland Ascot September sale for £28,000, in conjunction with one of our trusted Bloodstock agents, Federico Barberini, we sent the son of Pastoral Pursuits to be trained by RICHARD FAHEY. Once added to our website, at our stable visits, prospective owners were given the opportunity to take a share in him. 18 people did just that over the coming weeks. In March Richard told syndicate manager Tom Palin, that 'Rebel' had won his gallop - now that started the adrenalin rush!
He made his debut at Thirsk on Saturday April 13th over 5 furlongs - the day some of his owners were at Newbury with us watching Boitron run in the Greenham, so we watched him in the paddock and a big cheer went up as he won under a great ride by Paul Hanagan! He also earned his £10,000 Plus 10 Bonus cheque too (as you can see in the gallery.) Read the full story here: http://www.middlehamparkracing.net/news/view,2yo-ventura-rebel-wins-on-debut_2037.htm
Royal Ascot Trials day was on the horizon on May 1st with Wesley Ward bringing over his big sprinting guns from America. We were not fazed by our 20/1 staring price, with Rebel and Paul winning "going away" as the Racing Post commentary remarked. Taken to the top of the 2 year old Timeform ratings table with a 101p, our £28k purchase was looking another very good one: http://www.middlehamparkracing.net/news/view,a-day-to-remember-at-royal-ascot-trials-day_2053.htm
When we are approached by interested parties with offers for our horses, we ask the members of the syndicate to vote on whether they wish to accept. In the instance of Ventura Rebel, the figure was one that was hard to turn down. We wish his new owner the very best of luck with him at Royal Ascot, as he lines up for the Norfolk Stakes. They say lightening doesn't strike twice, well at this point last year, we had our Goffs Premier yearling £35k purchase NINETYTHREEYWENTY lining up for the Coventry Stakes for Richard Fahey and consequently also being sold for a 'multiple six figure sum' to race in Hong Kong, after his 6th place finish.
Winners are paramount, but sometimes it's also about putting smiles on the faces, of owners who have sold well too!
If you are considering joining us for the 2020 flat racing season, our team will be heading to the Yearling Sales from August. We welcome both individual owners where shares in our horses start at 2.5% as well as racing partnerships: If you are considering buying a 25% stake in a horse with us, you will be a joint named owner and we will manage the horse and the associated administration.
