Our 2019 bloodstock sales have reached the £1.5m mark

Thu 21 Nov 2019

The year may not yet be over, but it has been another rewarding one for our owners, both on the racecourse and through the sales ring. As we write this (21st November), we have had 86 winners and £1,234,940 of race prize money won this year. On top of this, our 2019 Bloodstock sales have now reached the £1.5m mark. This, on the back of 2018, where our Bloodstock sales reached £1.9 million by the end of the year for our owners.

When we buy our horses, be it at the yearling or store sales or at Horses-In-Training sales (HIT), we have two major factors in mind: Will they win in our silks and will the price we pay be value for money? Now not every horse can turn out to be a winner, a super star, or a money spinner in the sales ring, that's well known in racing, which is why we don't use the term 'investment'. Owning all or part or a racehorse is for the love of the sport and the fun of being at the races, visiting your horse at the stables and giving them lots of pats and treats when we can! There is also the privilege of going racing as an owner, wearing your Owners and Trainers badge and seeing racing 'from the other side of the paddock rails.'

Next year, we celebrate our 25th year of being in business, something we are very proud of. In the last month we have had over 50 new owners buy shares with us - some new to ownership and others who have had horses with other syndicates. We are also very proud to say that the vast majority of our owners are buying back in with us for next year.

In this story, we look at the horses who have been part of the tremendous returns to their owners through the sales ring, or through private sales this year:

BUCKMAN TAVERN (bought for €80,000 as a yearling and trained by Sir Mark Prescott). A winner at 2, the following year, he famously became the victim of two Stewards enquires at Sandown where he was badly impeded and had to accept 2nd place! His owners received a six figure offer* for him privately, which they chose to accept, which, added to the £20k of race prize money won after his win at Carlisle, had them smiling!

LEXINGTON EMPIRE (bought for £20k as a yearling and trained by David Lanigan). He rose to a handicap mark of 92, winning four times and exceeding his purchase price from race winnings. Truly consistent, he was in the winner’s enclosure in 10 of his 15 races. He was sold this year for 80,000 guineas.

MISS BAR BEACH (bought for just €9,000 and trained by Keith Dalgleish), she won two races, earned three pieces of black type and won over £28,000 in prize money. Another owner vote, saw her being purchased privately for a six figure sum and she has now become a broodmare. We can't wait to see her first foal on the ground.

SOUTHERN ROCK (bought as a HIT for £35k and trained by David O’Meara). Here’s what you call a season of thrills all round for his syndicate. We bought him in March 2019 as a 3-year-old from France, where he had raced twice for Andre Fabre. David got to know him and his ideal conditions and he turned out to be our joint top race winning horse! He won his purchase price back from his 4 wins, moved to a handicap rating of 78 to 93 and caught the eye of OTI Racing. They purchased him for a six-figure sum in September. His syndicate were well rewarded for their involvement here!

TIMOSHENKO (bought for 42,000 guineas as a yearling and trained by Sir Mark Prescott), won all six of his races in 2018, including the Class 2 Archerfield Cup and broke a course record at Lingfield! This year he added a Class 2 at the Goodwood Festival to his CV and increased his race earnings to £62k. He was sold at the Tattersalls HIT sale for 72,000 guineas.

VENTURA KNIGHT (Mark Johnston) He was our very first horse with Mark Johnston! We bought him as a yearling for £40,000 and he went on to win 7 races, including at Class 2 level, £91,000 in prize money and was sold privately this year. What a year Mark and his team have had, we must applaud their record breaking achievements! Is it any wonder that we have our grown our string with Mark this year...

VENTURA REBEL (bought for £28k as a yearling and trained by Richard Fahey). Our colt made headlines at Ascot when beating the hot favourite Lady Pauline in the Royal Ascot 2-year-old Trial Conditions Stakes. Two from two, he caught the eye and some big offers came in for him. His owners voted to accept a high six figure sum for him, far far exceeding their initial share purchase price! He went on to run a superb 2nd in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot and many of his syndicate have put their profits into our new horses to race next year! (That’s two years running that we have had a 2-year-old trained by Richard run at Royal Ascot, after NINETYTHREETWENTY last year. We also received a large six figure offer for him and his syndicate voted to sell him to race in Hong Kong, also making a very hefty profit!)

*Owners are asked to vote on whether they wish to sell/accept an offer for a horse.
