Happy retirement and thank you Tawdeea

Fri 14 Sep 2018

Syndicate manager Mike and Tim Palin purchased Tawdeea from the 2015 Tattersalls Horses-In-Training sale for 11,000 Gns and he proved to be a fabulous value for money purchase. We placed him with David O'Meara because of his track record with such horses. Our own G Force for example, also arrived at David's a maiden and he won the Group 1 Haydock Betfred Sprint and subsequently became European Champion Sprinter!

Tawdeea, by Intikhab was owned by Sheikh Hamdan and came to us a thrice raced 3 year old with an OR of 87. He was then gelded and given some time by David. By his second start he won his maiden at Hamilton and backed that up with a win at the newly opened all-weather track at Newcastle under Sam James. Heading up the ratings, he was stepped up in class and was beaten just 1/2 length by King Bolete at Haydock in a class 3 on good to firm which by then we knew he was not a fan of! So when entered for the historic Old Newton Cup back at Haydock four weeks later and the ground came up soft, we were hopeful....He and regular partner Danny Tudhope won by 1 1/2 lengths and gave his owners and their guests the most memorable day. (See the Racing Post article in the gallery.)

Tawdeea competed in 26 races in our colours, his highest OR was 106 he ran in no less than 17 Class 2 handicaps at Ascot, Doncaster, Goodwood, Haydock, Newcastle, Newmarket, Redcar, Ripon and York. One of his owners Pauline says "We had the honour of entries in the John Smiths & the Ebor. What a grand horse he’s been! Love him to bits. 'Tawds' was our first really good horse and 2016 will be a year we’ll never forget with him."

Amassing a super £115,879k of race prize money, he now heads off to retirement. His syndicate manager Mike says: “He’s been a wonderful horse to be involved with and has given us some great thrills as owners and that day at Haydock when he won the Old Newton Cup is one I’ll never forget. It was a super training performance from David O’Meara as he’s had to manage his ailments throughout. David will find a good home for him and he can have a happy retirement from racing.”

Thank you Tawdeea for some great days and to David, Sam and Danny for the thrills at the races with him.

Enjoy your retirement lad, you deserve it.
