Catch Me If You Can!

Thu 20 Jan 2022

WINNER 6 OF 2022: IF YOU DARE, trained by Charlie and Mark Johnston and ridden by Joe Fanning: The feature 'Betway Handicap' at Southwell, over 7f.

Last time he won, it was over 7 furlongs and at Chelmsford. He has also won previously, over 6f at Southwell, but that was on their former fibresand surface and today he lined up over course and distance, on their new tapeta surface.

He broke well and immediately took the lead, with Joe giving him a shake up 2f from home. He kept on well inside the final furlong to see off the challengers and always doing enough, he crossed the line to win by 1/2 a length.

This was his 3rd career win, with his race record superbly 'winners enclosure' consistent: 2124834143-1 and this win was his best RPR (of 96)

In his post-race interview, Joe said: "He jumped well, as he always does and travelled well. He was always doing enough and is a straightforward horse."

He was the Racing Post 'Star performer' from the Southwell meeting:"If You Dare (7.35) once again showed how dangerous he can be when left alone on the lead."

Timeform gave him a joint career best rating of 98 and say: "Resumed winning ways back down in trip, always looking to be in command in the straight and adding to a very solid all-weather profile; made all, travelled fluently, pushed along over 1f out, kept on; will continue to give a good account."

Syndicate manager Mike says: "Well done to his owners on his win yesterday, he loves bossing the race from the front! Of our 6 winners this year (so far) in fact 5 of them have made all the running and the other was on the straight track at Newcastle. In fact we are only 1 winner behind the Johnston team for the year asit stands, as they are on 7 now after If You Dare's win! "
