The Horse - Wine River The horse will hopefully prove to be a really good quality racehorse for 2005 and beyond, who may well make up into the sort of horse that can run in some of the nice, big track handicaps over fences. There is speed enough in his pedigree for hurdles yet plenty of stamina for wins over fences too. The dam has already produced a winner from her first runner, over fences. Her second progeny has already been placed 4th in a National Hunt Flat race. Our gelding is the 3rd produce. The mare is by the great NH sire OVER THE RIVER. The sire is a French horse MUROTO. So we have a lovely blend of Irish and French pedigrees, both so popular these days. This 5yo is a really big, strong, powerful gelding who I'd like to think has a really promising future. John tells me the horse just took his eye from a few that he was being shown and that he is working at home like a good horse. John bought the horse, from Tom Costello in Ireland who John has bought most of his good horses from over the years, such as Zeta's Lad, Nick The Brief, Very Very Ordinary, Over The Road, Tharr An Bharr and River Bounty, Echo's Of Dawn, Reach The Clouds, Over Zealous, Agincourt, Regal River. Tom Costello has sold 5 of the last 10 Gold Cup winners. All John's horses improve considerably with time and age. Chasers are only at their best when 8 or 9 years old. This 5yo gelding has been schooled over fences and he jumps for fun. Most horses from Tom Costello jump really well, they are schooled from being a yearling. So, we are tapping into a tried and tested formula for John and plenty of other top trainers.
