3 Winners in 2012

53 Winners in 2011. 424 Winners Overall.

23/02/2012 – Minella Theatre.

On Friday he ran at Sandown. Minilla was saddled in his box and took a few laps around the pre parade ring. He look calm and relaxed. Lawney informed that he was working well at home and he son schooled him the previous morning and gave him a good feel. The plan was to settle him in and hopefully pass a few horses coming up the hill that were tiring. Coming off the first bend he got squeezed out and seemed to not enjoy this. He got a good look at the majority of his fences. Coming round the final bend he was in a good position but as the others quickened he seemed to remain one paced.

When the jockey got off he said that he had given him a good feel and hardly put a foot wrong with his jumping. He also said that in the future we should maybe be looking at smaller fields.

Both trainer and jockey were happy with his performance today. Withi regards to the future we will look at other races to enter him into. To qualify for the national he has to be placed 4th or better over 3miles in the next few weeks

16/02/2012 – Minella Theatre

16/02/2012 – Junior.

The return is neigh! The Grand National favourite will be back in action tomorrow at Newbury. 15/02/2012 Impressive. Imprimis Tagula *WINNER*

Impy was out for the 2nd day running yesterday but this time back at Southwell where he loves it. He was over 7F this time. Upon arriving in the Paddock he was his normal relaxed self. Everyone was very happy with him and Alan said he was in fine form and should run a good race. Impy had in form Joe Fanning on board today. The plan was to set him up on the pace and then coming round the bend ask him to go and win his race.

Joe followed these instructions to the letter going clear at the one pole and just pushing him home extending the lead right through the line. Impy has found his winning form again. After the race came the selling of him. Alan was very adamant that Impy would be on the wagon going back home, so that ended the discussion!

Alan said after the race that he was very happy to be associated with the horse and he is a true gentleman of a horse. Well done to Impy and all connections.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

15/02/2012 The Grand National.

As stated yesterday the Grand National weights were published. The top weight was Synchronised with 11 stone 10 and last year’s winner Ballabriggs carry’s 11-9. The favourite for the race, our very own Junior carries the 15th top weight with 11 stone 2. We were hoping for nearer to 11 stone but 11-2 is still a solid weight that he can still have a good run round off. Junior is now 12/1 clear favourite for the worlds most famous race. Backstage, the favourite for the Foxhunters Chase at Cheltenham has been given 10 stone 1 for this years renewal of the National. This years bottom weight has gone to our third entry in the race Minella Theatre with 9 stone exactly. With both Backstage and Minella we will need quite a few entries to pull out if they are to take their place at the starting line. We will continue to post information here in the build up to the big race.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

14/02/2012 Junior

The national weights have just been published. Junior has 11 stone 2 on his back as he goes round the famous course. More on this to follow later..

Impy has two entries on consecutive days. Today he goes at Wolverhampton in the 3:10 over 6F and then tomorrow over 7F at Southwell in the 2:45. Today’s race looks warmer than tomorrows. Best of luck to all connections.

07/02/2012 Backstage *Winner*

There is no stopping Backstage. He won another point to point in Ireland yesterday again in convincing style. The favourite for the Foxhunters Chase at the Cheltenham Festival loves wining out there making him undefeated in his build up for his return to England. The Foxhunters should be the next time we see him out and then onto Aintree and a third trip round the national course for this consistent performer.  There is an article available on Sky Sports website outlining the plans and our thoughts on the horse. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

05/01/2012 Clockmaker

In a warm looking race yesterday Clockmaker was very unlucky to be beaten by a nose to a 105 rated horse. Tuesday will be interesting to see what the Handicapper does to him. We’re thinking either 99 or the magical 100 mark. Well done to all connections. He seems to be in the form of his life.

Tomorrow we have True Blue at Southwell in the 3:10 in a maiden hurdle and then at 5:30 at Kempton we have Clockmaker going. If he runs well he may well make it to Dubai. So the best of luck.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

30/12/2011 Red Cape / Not Bad For a Boy

We had 2 runners at Wolverhampton at the evening meeting. Red Cape was the first of the night winning in emphatic style under James Sulivan coming home 1 and a half lengths in front. Red provided James with his 50th winner of the year and Ruth Carr’s 40th. A big congratulations to both and all the owners.

Not bad for a boy ran in the next race following his recent outing at Wolves on Monday. He was on the pace but the run on Monday seemed to take a bit out of him. We will now give him a short break before looking at other races for him.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

22/12/2011- Richard Hannon

There is now a new update available on every Richard Hannon horse on their stable section along with plenty of new pictures. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

22/12/2011 - Beshabar

It has been announced today that the favourite for the Grand National in April, our very on Beshabar is more than 50% unlikely to run in it. He picked up a, what at the time was thought to be a small injury after his run in the Hennessy. After time has passed and the swelling has gone down, it has now been identified to be worse than first thought. This is a real blow to everyone involved with him but the horses safety is paramount and we must ensure that he is fully fit before thinking about running him again.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

21/12/2011 - Richard Hannon.

There will be new photos and videos available for the yearlings and new pictures for all the horses that are currently in training or on rest at Heatherwold. They should all be on by tomorrow evening.

Today we have Swiss Guard going at Bangor in the 2:40. Best of luck to all connections.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Heading East..erby.

The Epsom Dash winning horse Captain Dunne is looking likely to stay at home over the winter, Tim E feels that he needs longer to recover from a busy season of racing. Clockmaker however has been accepted onto the reserve list with a A/W rating of 96. We will just have to wait and see if any other horses drop out.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And he’s Dreamin.

And he's Dreamin has been sold to David Fox and will stay in the Tim Vaughan yard.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guava secures Richard Hannon another record.

Guava’s victory on Saturday in the claimer at Wolverhampton provided Richard Hannon with his 217th winner of the year, surpassing Mark Johnson’s record. We are thrilled to be involved with the horse that provides the champion trainer with this outstanding feat. Congratulations to both Richards and their team. More of the same next year please!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Weekends Racing Review.

Saturday saw a hat-trick of MPR runners out at various levels of racing. Our first runner was Rose of the Moon looking to make it back to back wins. He was a nailed on Favourite in the betting but as we all know, nothing is a certainty! He travelled well for the first half of the race but then began to struggle as he went through his “dead patch” and didn’t find much on the other side of this coming home in 3rd place. The post-race thoughts are that he should be chasing as soon as possible and maybe blinkers.

We then saw Mad Moose go in the big race of the day the Spinal Research Chase at Cheltenham. Sam yet again gave him a great ride keeping him out of trouble and getting a solid round into him. He again gave his owners a shout looking like he might come and finish higher than he did. He still has an exciting future with us. Go on the Moose!

Our final runner of the day was the Richard Hannon trained Guava. She carried bottom weight with 8 stone. Travelling in the pack for the majority of the race and then being switched to the inside coming into the straight she was allowed to quicken and power to the front. The 2nd horse found a bit more but Guava was determined to win and did enough to get her nose over the line first. Guava was then claimed for the £5,000 that she was in off. We would like to offer her new owners all the best with her in the future.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The invite is in the post

Victoire de Lyphar and Captain Dunne join King of Dixie in being accepted to race at the Meydan racecourse in Dubai. Both horses are expected to go to Dubai, though a final decision has not yet been made.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Backstage lands the four timer

Backstage notched up his 4th Open Point to Point victory on the bounce at Lisronagh over in Ireland. He scored by 2 1/2 lengths under leading Irish P2P jockey Derek O'Connor (His normal pilot, Jamie Codd, is still on the sidelines recovering from a broken leg.) He'll now have a small break, before being prepared for the Foxhunters Chase at the Cheltenham Festival in March.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clockmaker Review.

Clockmaker was settled in the parade ring. When Duran came in he told us he was taking the horse down to the start early to keep him calm. The plan was to bounce him out, get him handy and sit in about second or third position. He said there was pace on his inside so he wouldn't have to lead.

Clockmaker broke very well and was soon in second place. On entering the back straight he appeared to be running a little keenly and Duran took a pull. Clockmaker then settled going down the back straight and

when going round the bend towards the home straight he pulled himself to the front. Duran then kicked for home and got a couple of lengths lead. He ran on strongly and as the other horses came to him he lengthened and won easily going away. The horse was still full of
running and Duran did another full circuit before returning to the winners enclosure.

On dismounting Duran said that he'd got him settled and had taken a pull early on. At the end of the back straight the horse wanted to go on. He didn't want to take another pull in case Clockmaker lost interest so he kicked on and the horse battled to the line. He said the horse had enjoyed the surface and hopefully there would be more to come over the winter months.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

King of Dixie.

Our recent purchase King Of Dixie has been accepted to go to Dubai. He will leave on the 23rd December. We will provide you with more information when it becomes available.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Grand National.

With the Grand National now being an annual fixture with runners in the feature race for us we now start to look forward to it. With the all-important weights being published for the race in February entering the horses in the right races is now at the forefront of everyone’s mind more than ever.

With twice previous runs in the National Backstage is in the mix again. He has being tearing up his point to point races in Ireland winning by 10 lengths with hardly coming off the bridle. Reviews of his races are available below and on his my stable section of the site. We have been looking on odds checker at the Ante post market for the National and you can find him at 33/1. This is a great price for someone of his ability and previous National experience.

We are also very proud to see that Middleham Park Racing have both the Favourite and 2nd Favourite of the most exciting race in the world. To have 3 horses entered in the Grand National is unbelievable. Not many trainers can boast this let alone an owner. Beshabar is the favourite 14/1 and Junior is right behind him (if only this happens on April 14th, or vice versa!) at 16/1.

Having the first two in the betting for this race is certainly things dreams are made of.

Tim Easterby’s Open Morning.

Sunday morning saw what now an annual event involving all of Tim’s horses and a meal at the Feathers pub after. This was a great event from start to finish. All of the horses looked well, especially our group 1 runner Captain Dunne. We are still weighing up if to send him to Dubai for the racing out there. With plenty of money available it is under serious consideration but only if the races look right for him.

The meal after was enjoyed by everyone and there was a really good atmosphere with people talking about the highs and lows of the year. We look forward to more of the same this time next year.

We would all like to extend our thanks to Alison for organising this event, it was a great success and again thanks for all your work over the past year.

A full review of the morning and lunch will be available soon and sent to you.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Beshabar. 5th.

Saturday saw the running of the infamous Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury. Beshabar ran in this iconic race in the famous blue and orange for the first time. With plenty owners in attendance he strode into the paddock with real purpose but still in his normal relaxed manner. He looked a  real picture, all credit to the stable staff who had worked with him. He was Channel 4’s pick of the paddock. And we fancied him.

Aidan Coleman took his mount and headed out to the track. He got out to the front early and continued jumping where he left off from Ayr. He ran a very similar race to that day last season. He looked great until the pace quickened and with him being a stayer this is one attribute he struggles with. With the likes of Great Endeavour taking the race on he lost places. He continued to jump well and even coming up the final run in he was staying on up the hill. Another furlong and a half and he would have had them all! This was always a real problem with the shorter trip like the Hennessy.

He had a great round of jumping into him and picked up some prize money as well. The handicapper will leave him alone or maybe even take him down 1. Moments after the race I spoke to Tim V and he was happy with his performance. We now won’t see him until the weights for the national are published in February. Then maybe a run at a festival to give him some more jumping reminders and then off over the famous fences.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Red Cape. Winner

Friday night saw Red’s 2nd race this November again at Wolverhampton. James Sullivan was on board again. Drawn on the outside Red had some ground to make up from the start. But he broke well and James Settled him into a position in the middle of the pack. Gathering speed around the bend they launched their attack on the straight and there was no catching him. Red tore the track up to win in impressive fashion. Red is now entered yet again at Wolves on Thursday.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mad Moose. 3rd.

Sam was very enthusiastic about the moose both pre-race and even more so post-race. He really loves this horse. Moose won the best turned out award before the race and seemed his normal self in the ring. He was a little on his toes but nothing to worry about, it was more eagerness to race than anything else.

The race was ran how we thought it would be with Bob’s Worth and Cue Card dominating the finish. If anybody knows how Sam stayed on at the first answers on a postcard please!! After this he sat him away from any trouble and got one of his best rounds of jumping into him. Arguably taking the plaudits of the best jumper in the race. Coming into the final straight we were still in contention with the front 2 with Spirit River failing to impress and being tailed off behind us. With mistakes being made two out by the leading pair the moose closed more but ultimately being done by the extra class the front 2 had. Sam just brought him home for a well-earned 3rd. This was a nice surprise to all everyone there as we showed we could hold our own in this class of race, and we don’t think we will be seeing the likes of the front 2 for a while!

His next race is likely to be Sat 10th December at Cheltenham.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rose over the Moon!

Rose of the moon ran at Uttoxeter on Thursday 24th November. He was back from his recent wind operation which would hopefully help him find a bit more towards the end of the race and when he comes off the bridle. Rose of the Moon made his seasonal debut at Uttoxeter in the 3 mile Novice Hurdle. He was a well backed odds on favourite and Jake Greenall took the ride. Jake settled Rose just in behind the leaders on the first circuit as the field went a reasonable pace on the good to soft ground. Rose jumped and travelled well. The leaders picked up the pace on the back straight of the final circuit and three horses drew away from the field with Rose stalking in third. Jake had to get busy on him around the home turn as he appeared a little flat footed and also clipped the running rail, but he was still well in touch. He was short of room on a couple of occasions in the home straight but when Jake brought him wide around the leaders Rose pinged the last and stayed on well to win going away with his ears pricked. This was a nice performance and Rose should be able to go on to bigger and better things. Jake said afterwards that he was dossing a bit around the top bend and maybe we should put some head gear on just to keep him concentrating during his races but was very pleased with the way he stayed on.

The video of the win is now available to watch on his page.

Tim Easterby Open Morning

The Open Morning at Tim Easterby's will start at 10 am on Sunday 27th November. See you all there!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Future runners.

Tomorrow sees the start of a what is going to be a busy few of days for MPR. Tomorrow we have Rose of the Moon and True Blue going for us. We then have Red Cape out at Wolverhampton on Friday in the 4:00. Mad Moose is likely to run at Newbury as well but jumps is 24 hour declarations. So we will know tomorrow if he does go. We then look forward to the biggest race of the week in the Hennessy Gold Cup with Beshabar.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Competition.

Check back here regularly, we will be announcing an exciting competition shortly.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nigel Twiston Davies open morning.

We are pleased to announce a stable visit to Nigel’s yard on Sunday 11th December. We have no confirmed time as of yet but it is likely to be an early start. As ever, if you would like to attend please register with Tom Palin.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Beshabar.

Our Hennessy entry has been stealing the headlines again with a very interesting Racing Post article on their site this morning regarding his chances in the race. It can be found on this link:

http://www.racingpost.com/news/horse-racing/newbury-newbury-beshabar-definitely-ready-for-hennessy-test/951299/top/

In places you can find him at 10-1.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Junior.

At The Races’s website have published an article on the future racing plans for Junior featuring numerous quotes from MPR’s Racing Manager Tim Palin. Its well worth a read and can be found at this link:

http://www.attheraces.com/article.aspx?hlid=520825&lid=&raceid=&title=February+return+for+Junior&ref=atrPA+Racing+Feed&nav=&sub=&day=Tue

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chuckery.

Chuckery will run in the 12:50 at Ffos Las under the guidance of Aiden Coleman.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Beshabar.

Today was another entry stage for the famous Hennessey Chase at Newbury on Saturday. It is looking increasingly likely that we will run him this weekend. In the Sunday Mirror Tim Vaughan said that he is “a lovely racing weight”. He also says “we are expecting a big run”. “ It’s one of the big races of the season, with a great tradition and anyone would want to win it given the chance.” “Plenty of horses have won it on their seasonal debut’s and he’s done plenty of work so he’s defiantly ready. Besides, when you have a horse in such great form it would be silly to gear everything around April.”

After the Entries were made the racing post published an article on their site with a comprehensive section devoted to our horse:

“Scottish Grand National winner Beshabar is set to make his seasonal reappearance and is a general 14-1 shot for the race.

\\\\"He's been confirmed today and that's the plan so far,\\\\" trainer Tim Vaughan told At The Races on Monday morning.

\\\\"The horse is being geared around the Grand National and he's a horse that gets better with every run. Last year he was slow and deliberate on the first run and then he got better and better. The way the Hennessy's worked out this year the track and trip should be fine and it's a good starting point.

\\\\"A lot of trainers are starting to talk up their star horses but hopefully he can run a good race and be super competitive and go from there.\\\\"”

It’s a real privilege to have such a lovely horse in this famous race. Keep up to date with the latest news on Beshabar and all our other runners this week by checking this page regularly. I aim to update it at least once a day.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The week ahead.

We are about to embark on a very exciting week ahead. With plenty of entries throughout the week both on the all-weather and over jumps.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Open Mornings.

We held 3 open mornings last Satruday at Kevin Ryans, Michael Bell’s and Sir Henry Cecil’s yards. All were excellent and enjoyed by all the owners that attended. All the horses looked well and their respective trainers were excited about them. At Sir Henry’s we were even lucky enough to see a certain un-defeated race horse, he did try taking a bite out of one of the MPR team though!

We do have Tim Easterby’s open morning this Sunday along with a meal afterwards. Contact Tom Palin for more information.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tomorrow’s Runners.

Tomorrow we have 2 declared runners, they are Comedy Act and My Moment, they will go at Haydock in the 12:50 and Ascot in the 3:20 respectively. We look forward to seeing both run well.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Charlie Cool.

Charlie may have ran his last race for us on Tuesday. He hated the kick back of sand in his face therefor meaning he never really got into the race. The poor draw also meant that he was struggling to get to the front to avoid this.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just Lille.

She will run at Wolverhampton on Saturday in the 8:20. We wish her and her goat good luck!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Backstage.

Another of our possible Grand National Entries will be out point to pointing in Ireland again on Saturday. He will be running at Kirkistown. We will inform you on how he does, but after winning his last two things look good.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Beshabar.

Beshabar is likely to run in the Hennessey Gold Cup a week on Saturday. Keep checking here for more information. We are all very excited about the prospect of having a fancied horse in such a big race.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Charlie Cool.

Charlie will be out tomorrow in the 2:50 at Southwell. Tom will be in attendance to greet the owners who are travelling there.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kevin Ryan Open Morning.

As previously stated Danny Maguire will be in attendance at Kevin’s Yard this Saturday. Kevin’s will take place this Saturday and start at 10 am. Again for more information please contact Tom.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sir Henry Cecil Open Morning.

“The boss is away until Wednesday” is what I was told this morning, meaning we will not have any further information available on the start time of the open morning until then. We are hoping for it to be around 9 am. If you are interested in attending to see Ghost Runner please register your interest with Tom. He will provide you with more information when he knows. Ghost runner has been broken in and is starting to canter.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tim Easterby Open Morning.

Tim’s Christmas Open morning will take place on Sunday 27th November. You will be able to see all the horses but with the majority of our horses on “holiday” we won’t see them work. Alison has kindly organised lunch for owners after the stable visit at The feathers pub nearby. If you are interested in attending either or both please let Tom know and he can pass the information on.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Michael Bell Open Morning.

We are pleased to announce yet another open morning at one of our trainer’s yards. This time with Derby winning training Michael Bell. This will be at 11:00 on Saturday 19th November. We will be able to see the new filly We Are City canter. Michael also reported today that he is very happy with her progress and she is moving very well indeed. We are looking forward to the morning at his yard.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Danny Maguire.

Super League Champion Danny Maguire who has shares with MPR will be attending Kevin Ryan’s Open morning. He is the latest big name to join MPR alongside Clare King and Geraint Jones.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Open Mornings.

Over the last few weeks we have had an abundance of Open mornings at trainers yards. We are only about halfway through our programme of open mornings. We still have the following Mornings available:

Tim Vaughan Sunday 13th November

Kevin Ryan Saturday 19th November

Sir Henry Cecil Saturday 19th November

Michael Bell Saturday 19th November 11:00

Tim Easterby Sunday 27th November

If you would like to attend any of the open mornings you MUST register your interest with tom on the address: tom@middlehamparkracing.net

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Declarations.

On Saturday we have No Time To Cry out again under Graham Gibbons on the All Weather at Wolves in the 8:20, and on Sunday Chaninbar goes at Cheltenham in the 1:45 under Sam Twiston-Davis's instructions.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not Bad For A Boy.

He will be out tomorrow for CHAMPION TRAINER Richard Hannon at Lingfield on the sand in the 12:50, Adam Kirby rides.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ann Duffield.

New updates are available on all of Ann’s horses in training on their my stable pages. In other Ann news, Beechey’s Beauty who was sold a few weeks ago was out for the new owners for the first time yesterday but unfortunately was fatally injured in the first race at Southwell. A sad way for such a nice horse to end.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Runners.

We have had a quite few days with runners, business will pick up again towards the weekend as we have plenty of entries that should turn into declarations.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guava.

Fortunately the handicapper has dropped her to 65

This means she now qualifies for

17th Nov Kempton 7f 0-65
23rd Nov Kempton 7f 0-65
24th Nov Kempton 6f 0-65

The intention is to run in one or two of these and then decide what we do. Hopefully she will run well and enhance her value and make her more sellable or perversely you may think, run badly and make it easy for us to decide to retire her or move her on ASAP as cheaply as we dare.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

True Blue.

He is a NON-RUNNER today.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Michael Bell.

Middleham Park can now add another world class trainer to our ever growing list Michael Bell, famed for his 2005 Derby winner Motivator and Oaks winner Sariska. He also trained the Nunthorpe winner Margot Did beating our very own Captain Dunne. We are very excited to have him aboard and he has also provided us with a quality horse as well. She will be called We Are City as both he and half of MPR are Manchester City fans (hense the blue silks, and countless horses names). To find out more about the syndicate you can find her on the shares available page.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Runners.

We have no runners today but we do have True Blue declared for the 1:30 at Sedgefield on Tuesday 8th November.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Red Cape.

Red Cape runs tonight in the 6:30 at Wolverhampton.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clockmaker.

Clockmakers victory at Catterick is now available to view on his my stable page.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

David O’Meara Open Morning.

The open morning will go ahead THIS SUNDAY. It will start at 11 am. For more information please contact tom on: tom@middlehamparkracing.net

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sixties Icon.

We have acquired a seriously good looking horse from the first season sire Sixties Icon. He was best remembered for finishing 7th in the Derby behind Sir Percy and winning the St. Leger in the same year. The mare of this colt also won the Oaks. You couldn’t ask for better breeding than that. He is a real exciting horse and looks fantastic. For more information look on the Shares Available page.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Red Cape.

Red will be out again tomorrow at Wolves in the 6:30 with James Sullivan atop.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chuckery.

Chuckery will run today in the 3:20 at Warwick with Michael Byrne onboard. Good luck to the owners.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Horses in Training sales.

Last night and this morning we had Captain Kolo and whispering Spirit go through the Doncaster sales ring. They made £1,600 and £2,500 respectively. They gave us all some good times and we join the owners in wishing them all the best for future life.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Remember, remember the 5th November.

With a quite week ahead for MPR with regards to runners we are looking forward to Saturday with 8 horses entered in 10 different races. See them all on the Entries and Declarations page. Well have to see how many “rocket” to the font, or “set the track on fire”. Im sure “Catharine wheel” be watching. Sorry!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Esentepe steps up on previous performances.

It looked a mighty leap for Esentepe, lining up against the blue bloods of Newmarket on Saturday. A leap because it can be a sizeable gap from a Leicester maiden victory, albeit an impressive one to a listed fillies race for 2yos over the Rowley Mile. She travelled well in the
first part of the race and came to challenge 2f out. Looming up large in the final furlong, it even seemed as if she may get her head in front with half a furlong to travel. Just run out of it in the last strides she came in a very honourable 3rd, earning that elusive black type that all fillies really need for the paddocks. I'm unsure of her value but I would guestimate in the region of 80k. Not bad for a 22,000gns purchase. She may well go to Heatherwold Stud now for a well-deserved holiday over the winter months. What a pleasure she has been to be involved with this season. Well done to her very loyal band of owners. Dane said it was her toughness which saw her get involved in the finish because he hadn't been confident at half way, just how much she had in reserve.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Backstage no back number.

Another Irish open point to point weekend, another point to point victory for the winning machine that is Backstage. The aim this season is principally the Foxhunters at Cheltenham followed by another crack at the world's greatest steeplechase, the John Smiths Grand National at Aintree in April. He should have a more feasible weight this year and I can see him running into the first half dozen or so at Aintree. His victory at the weekend brings our annual win tally to 45. Another fine year for the record breaking Middleham Park Racing syndicates, and it the tally shows no signs of stopping. We have several entries in for this weekend at the last day of the turf Flat season at Doncaster. It could provide us with a grand finale to the turf season.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Racing Post.

The Racing Post run a weekly stable tour on a Monday, in todays paper one of the yards is David Pipe’s. We have three horses in training with him and he has spoken about each of them in the piece. The text is also available on the horses my stable section.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dreaming of Rubies.

It’s not often you get the chance to be involved with sire’s of the quality of Oasis Dream, but that’s just what were offering here. We have managed to secure some lease shares in Dreaming or Rubies. She is a real promising filly who showed plenty of speed and ability on debut coming 2nd at Beverly. For more information find her on the shares available page.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Open Mornings.

With two successful open mornings at Ann Duffield’s and David Pipe’s yard this weekend we now look forward to David O’Mera’s this weekend. If you have already registered your interest information will be sent out in the week about the morning.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An owners prospective of the Hannon open morning.

Loyal owner Dave Arthur’s blog this week focuses on the Hannon open morning, it is well worth a read.

http://flutter61.blogspot.com/?spref=tw

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No Time To Cry.

NTTC has been entered at Nottingham  on Wednesday 2nd November. If she runs this will be her 3rd race meaning that she qualifies for a handicap mark.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Open Mornings.

We can  now add two more open mornings to the list. These are Tim Easterby and our 1st visit to Warren Place and Sir Henry Cecil’s yard to see Ghost Runner (Tagula Colt). With regards to the Sir Henry open morning I have been told that they prefer smaller numbers of owners attending, therefore this will only be available to people who have registered interest in the horse or are currently owners in the horse. To register interest in him please go to the “Our Available Shares” page. The list of open mornings now looks like:

David Pipe Sunday 30th October

Ann Duffield Sunday 30th October

David O Meara Sunday 6th November

Richard Fahey Wednesday 9th November

Tim Vaughan Sunday 13th November

Kevin Ryan Saturday 19th November

Sir Henry Cecil Saturday 19th November

Tim Easterby Sunday 27th November

Again, if you would like to register interest for any of the days please contact tom at: tom@middlehamparkracing.net

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today’s Runners.

The old timer Fol Hollow goes again for us tonight in the 1st at Kempton (5:30). He should run better than his last outing at Pontefract as he was drawn in the car park which isn’t a great place to be there.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Moment.

My Moment is declared for Wetherby on Friday. The ground could be a bit troublesome for him though.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yesterday’s Runners.

Ann has reported that both horses have come out of the race well. Whispering Spirit was always going to be stretched by the trip, she travelled well for 7F but was ultimately undone in the final 2 as she began to tire. No Time To Cry once again showed promise for such a backward horse, again coming home in 5th but learning more about racing with each outing.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Open mornings.

Just a update on Both open mornings. They will both now start at 11 A.M. If you would like to register your interest at either Ann’s or David’s yard please contact Tom on the details below.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Todays Runners.

Today we send 2 Ann Duffield horses up to Musselburgh in the shapes of Whispering Spirit and No Time To Cry. Whispering  is in the first race on the card in the 2:10. She is drawn 4 and top rated in the race along with the racing posts postdata to her name. She is in the right race and has a good chance, the only flaw is that she only just gets the trip. The backward filly NTTC is out again after her impressive debut at Redcar where she showed a lot of promise. Hopefully she has taken on board all the experience she gained last time out and can continue to improve at the tail end of this season.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Racing UK Jumps advert.

With the new jumps season already upon us Racing UK have produced a advert showcasing the courses and the meetings that they cover. Middleham Park Racing’s colours feature no fewer than 3 occasions. Backstage is shown on his big days in the spotlight at Aintree in The Grand National. Junior is shown after winning the Kim Muir at Cheltenham. It also showed our latest Grand National recruit Beshabar winning the National at Ayr, this was his last run in his previous colours.

This advert just proves how far in the last 16 years the company has come, from being totally unknown to featuring on preview’s to the jump season adverts alongside the biggest names in racing. We would like to thank Racing UK for this and also thank everyone that has been involved in getting us this far.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clockmaker-Winner.

Clockmaker brings up our 44th winner of the season with a outstanding lead for the race victory. Graham gave him a great ride on testing ground; he seemed to go well in it. Well done to all the owners involved. Now lets hope we can have Another winner.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today’s Runners.

Today we send out 2 Tim Easterby runners in the shape of Another Citizen and Clockmaker. They both run in separate divisions of the same race an hour apart. The ground has just been called as “soft” but jockeys are saying that it is “a soft, soft”, so expect plenty of cut in the ground. Another Citizen runs in the 3:50 and Clockmaker coming back from the “Gate” incident an hour before.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yesterday Runners.

Hayek ran a good race under young William Easterby, who was a little nervous riding in only his 5th race. Both he and the horse gave a good account of themselves even when faced with a closed door and no running room. William switched him into the middle of the track and  he stayed on for a promising 2nd place.

Refusetosurrender missed the beat at the start of the race and with kick back from a unknown surface in her face she didn’t really settle into the race. She normally travels well but this time she didn’t, coming off the bend she was on the outside of the main group but she had too much ground to make up and ended coming home in the middle.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

David Pipe Open Morning.

On Sunday 30th October we will be holding a Open Morning at David Pipe’s Yard. This should be a 10am start. If you would like to receive more information when it is available please register your interest with Tom at the e-mail address below.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ann Duffield Open morning.

Ann’s open morning will be this Sunday (30th) starting at her yard at 11am and should finish around 12:30. We will be able to see some of the older horses who haven’t been roughed off work. The yearlings will also be there and you will be able to see them and have you picture taken with them. Clare King will be in attendance to look at the Strategic Prince, which she has a share in. You will be able to clear up and questions that you have about your horse(s) with the trainer herself. If you would like more information please contact tom at: tom@middlehamparkracing.net

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Open mornings.

Yesterdays Richard Hannon open day was widely regarded as a success by all who attended. We got to see all the older horses with some even doing a piece of work for us on the gallops. We were then lucky enough to witness the new yearlings being long reined in the barn. This was a great sight and gave everyone there first real glimpse of next year’s crop.

We hope to have the same success this weekend with our double header of open mornings both at David Pipes and Ann Duffields. For more information see below.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Runners today.

Today we send out two runners, Hayek, trained by Tim Easterby and ridden by son William, and Richard Faheys Refuse to surrender at Leicester and Southwell respectively. Both should run well but with Faheys just finishing higher than Hayek.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tim Vaughan.

With 13 horses with Tim he is a vital part to our jumping domination plans. Racing UK have recently produced an interview with him and it is available here:

http://www.racinguk.com/video/watch/trainer-files-with-tim-vaughan.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Moment-WINNER

My moment ran today at Fakenham in the 2:45. He was carrying top weight jockey Richard Johnson. He made all and frequently out jumped the only real rival in the race and created lengths with his jumping ability. He was only really asked going into the last as he began to become tired. He won easily in the end coming in 3 lengths clear. A very classy performance coupled with a classy ride, this could be a partnership to watch over the coming months.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guava-3rd

The super filly Guava was out again Brighton but this time over 7F. She raced prominently and looked like she could win it at the 2 pole. She began to fall back from the winner. With the 2nd horse coming from behind her she took offence to this and quickened again to pass the horses on the far side and only be narrowly beaten for 2nd by a short neck.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Middleham Park Racing Forthcoming Open Day’s.

It’s that time of year again, the jump season getting under starters orders and the flat season pulling up after another enthralling season. With this busy time of year comes either your first or last chance to see your horses. We have set up the following open days, and are looking into setting up more.

Richard Hannon Sunday 23rd October

David Pipe Sunday 30th October

Ann Duffield Sunday 30th October

David O Meara Sunday 6th November

Richard Fahey Wednesday 9th November

Tim Vaughan Sunday 13th November

Kevin Ryan Saturday 19th November

Sir Henry Cecil Saturday 19th November

Tim Easterby Sunday 27th November

For further details and to reserve your place on any of the Open Days listed above please email  tom@middlehamparkracing.net

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Richard Hannon Open Morning.

With the yard being a long drive for many people to get to we are going to hold a social evening on the Saturday night at the Sheers Inn, which is just down the road from the yard. The Inn has good quality rooms still available for the night so you will be refreshed for the next mornings events rather than having to drive first thing in the morning. There will be several members of the MPR team staying there as well.

We plan on having a meal and a few drinks in the bar. It should be a good evening and Richard Hannon Jr has said that he should be turning up for a beer. Its should be a good way of meeting other owners away from the horses. If you are interested in coming to the meal or booking a room please contact tom on the e-mail: tom@middlehamparkracing.net

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ann Duffield open morning.

Ann's Open morning on the 30th October will begin at 10 am. Clare King will be in attendance looking at her new horse the Strategic Prince colt that we have with Ann. It promises to be a great morning. If you would like more information please contact Tom at: tom@middlehamparkracing.net

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Midnight Tryst-3rd

Midnight Tryst made her long awaited debut yesterday at Pontefract. She had a poor ish draw but nothing that we couldn’t work with. The main complication was getting her both into and then out of the stalls correctly. Ann went to the start to help encourage her in. After several attempts she went in and seemed calm in them. When the gates opened she flew out not missing the beat, which was a real possibility. Over the first half of the race she was on the outside of the pack but not looking like she was settling, this is to be expected from a horse who hasn’t experienced racing before.  She seemed to work a bit better in the later half of the race stretching the main pack and eventually going clear. She came home in third place behind the winner who was rated 79 and a good 2nd horse. It was a very promising debut and everyone in attendance was pleased with the race. The plan is now to try and get another run into her before the end of the year, it may be over the all-weather and then get her ready for a exciting 3 year old career. Paul did get off and say that the ground probably didn’t suit her, she would like something a bit firmer.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No Jockey strikes so racing goes ahead.

After the last few days of uncertainty about if racing will go ahead today It has been confirmed that it will with talks being held elsewhere. This is good news for us as we have 2 runners at Pontefract today. We do have 3 declarations but Swift Encounter does not run. This is due to the ground becoming firmer over the last couple of days and Ann made the decision last night to pull him out. We have the opposite ends of the scale out today, the old timer Fol Hollow  and the debutant Midnight Tryst. Midnight Tryst is around the 6/1 mark, Ann reports that the stalls work is now fine but we obviously don’t know how a raceday will suit her. There is always the chance that she will miss the break from the stalls and leave herself a lot to do. She is a lovely moving filly with plenty of potential, today will be a good insight into what to expect. Fol Hollow, I think by now we all know what to expect from the old boy! The trouble is the draw is against him, drawn 17 of 17 and you would like to be in single figure numbers to have a chance, but we will have to wait and see!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No Time To Cry.

No time to cry will make her Debut today at Redcar in the 3:45. The weather is clearing up which should suit her, but its always hard to tell first time out with any horse. So the best of luck to everyone connected with her. It should be a good day by the seaside!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ann Duffield Open Morning.

We are looking to have another open morning with Ann Duffield on the 30th October. After the success of the previous one and with the recent purchase of the Indesatchel filly we arranged this open morning. It will be a 10am start at the yard. You will be able to see all the horses at the yard and stroke them. We will also be able to get another look at the Strategic Prince colt and the Red clubs filly as well as the first look at the new filly bought last week which we are excited about. It promises to be a good day and if you have been before you will know what i mean when i say you are well looked after. As stated below, if you would like more

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Open Morning Plans.

Within the coming weeks we have 4 chances for owners to visit our trainers yards. With the start of the Jump season and the conclusion of the Flat this could be your first or last chance to see your horse. I would recommend that you do take these opportunity’s. You are also welcome to attend any of the days if you are associated with MPR but don’t own a share in a horse at that yard.

The four yards are :

Richard Fahey

David Pipe

Ann Duffield

London Calling -2nd

Guava runs tonight at Kempton in the 7:50. She is off top weight and back on the sand. Should be a good race, if she runs as well as last time we could be in for a good night.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nottingham delayed by one race. Mirrored now in the 3:40

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mirrored.

Mirrored will run today in what seems to be a very hot race at Nottingham. There are some serious colours in the race. In his favour however a better quality of horse normally means they go at a bit of a gallop, unlike the recent Doncaster outing that went off at a crawl. This should play into his hands nicely allowing him to come from off the pace and finish strongly. Tim was very pleased with the horse on Monday when I went to see him.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tim Vaughan.

Alongside our recent open day at Tim's yard Racing UK have interviewed him for their \\\\"Trainer Files\\\\". It is on today on Racing UK (432 on Sky) at 12. Should provide an interesting insight into how he runs his yard. Tune in if you get the chance.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tim Easterby.

There are new pictures and updates on the Easterby horses available on their my stable section of the site. Hope you enjoy them.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guava.

Guava is declared for Thursday in the 7:50 at Kempton. She returns to the track after her emphatic victory last time out. Sean Levey is back atop her after he got on so well with her last time. Were looking to strike again while the iron is hot. She will be going off top weight and rather 66 but if she runs anything like last time she should be in the mix.

Our Tattersalls Millions Qualifiers 2012

Lot 439 38,000gns yearling half sister to HEARTS OF FIRE (Ann Duffield)

Lot 476 55,000gns yearling FULL BROTHER to Windsor Castle winner DRAWNFROMTHEPAST (Sir Henry Cecil)

We bought these two really exciting horses this week at Newmarket from Tattersalls Book 1 yearling sales. Book 1 used to be called the Houghton or Highflyer Sale. It is THE PREMIER SALE for yearlings, certainly in Europe and possibly the World. Bidding was fierce at all levels which should be no surprise given the choiceness of the pedigrees and individuals on offer. Both of our acquisitions were bought to be high class horses but also with an eye very much on the lucrative Tattersalls Millions series of races to be run in 2012 and 2013.

The Tattersalls Millions is a 6 race series

£500,000 7f October 6th 2012 ( winner £275,000 there's even £5000 for 10th place)

£300,000 7f October 6th 2012 (fillies only)

£100,000 6f September 22nd 2012 winner

£100,000 6f September 22nd 2012 fillies only Median Auction. Fillies by unsexy sires have massive advantage.

£200,000 Craven Meeting 2013 10f

£100,000 6f Craven Meeting 2013

Importantly the races are for horses sold EXCLUSIVELY at this sale.

Two of the races are limited to fillies only. Given that over half of the catalogue are colts and given that the majority of pedigrees in the sale are bred to need middle distances, we feel that this offers a real opportunity to purchase a horse that is bred to be FULLY effective at a mile or less that will afford us a real advantage come sales race time. We have been staggered in recent times by studying the quality of the above races in how, if you target the races specifically, how achievable a goal the winning of such races can be.

The fact that we have bought speedy sorts rather than a middle distance pedigree affords us a massive edge of the majority of the Book 1 cohort qualifiers. Both of our horses will be trained principally in maximising each individual's potential but with very much ROYAL ASCOT and THE TATTERSALLS MILLIONS in mind. You can find further details on our Tattersalls Millions qualifiers on the share available page of our website.

Dhaular Dhar

On a very wet and misty day up at York D.D. ran in their final race of the season. With the going a dubious Good (I would have said it would have been verging on soft) he was always up against it. Gary Bartley identified the best ground was on the far rail so it was a deliberate plan as to why he went over there on his own. He was right on the leaders pace until about 2 out when the ground just got the better of him and sapped all his energy. After the race Gary said “the ground was about as good as you will get over there. Wasn’t going to be his day as soon as the rain came. Will do better next time out.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tagula yearling colt - full brother to DRAWNFROMTHEPAST goes into training with Sir Henry Cecil.

If you have ever wondered what God looks like, or if you have ever thought about a possible meeting with him within your lifetime, them Middleham Park Racing offers you the opportunity to answer the former question and realise your aspiration. God is of course incarnate in the form of Sir Henry Cecil.

Even before Frankel came along, Sir Henry was God and now he has probably superseded even those dizzy heights. For those of us old enough and therefore lucky enough in this instance to remember the entirety of Sir Henry's career, there can be no question that he is simply the greatest trainer of a thoroughbred racehorse of certainly his and probably any generation. To be afforded the opportunity to have a horse trained by the maestro himself is a privilege in itself and fortunately Sir Henry when we approached him confirmed

''I would be delighted to train for Middleham Park Racing''.

Ross Doyle and his father Peter were given the instructions to buy for us a well bred yearling who would make a high class mid season 2yo and beyond for 2012 for Sir Henry to train. They have done us proud in sensational fashion, buying from arguably the Premier Yearling Sales in the world  Tattersalls Book 1 this FULL BROTHER to the Royal Ascot 2yo Winner DRAWNFROMTHEPAST (quite apt given that we are attempting to emulate the full brother)

There may be one or 2 of you thinking that Sir Henry does best with late maturing fillies so why buy a colt who will be at least as good at 2 as beyond ? Sir Henry is outstanding in the 3yo+ filly sphere, but he is outstanding in allspheres. All that needs to be said to the 3yo+ filly theorists is FRANKEL . However we could throw in to the argument TWICE OVER, KEEN, DIESIS, PRECOCIOUS, VACARME, TENBY, REFERENCE POINT, COMMANDER IN CHIEF, SLIP ANCHOR, WOLLOW, LEGEND OF FRANCE, SHAVIAN, SHARPEN UP, ARMIGER, SALSE etc. Make no mistake Sir Henry is a man for all seasons, make no mistake. Whatever you care to send him he can train to perfection from his Warren Hill Stables, Newmarket.

Richard Hannon Open Morning

We are having our next Richard Hannon Open Morning on Sunday 23rd October . The start time will probably 10am although final timings will announced on the site nearer the time. If you have a share in a Richard Hannon horse or a share in one is of interest then please do not hesitate to contact tom@middlehamparkracing.net to reserve your place. I am sure we will pop to the Shears pub round the corner just after and I know some of us are staying down there overnight the previous evening. It threatens to be a great day. We are very much looking forward to it already

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sales Review

After the trip to Paris our next assignment was Tattersalls sales book 1. This is widely regarded as “the best sales in the world”. Countless winners of Group 1’s have come from this sale. Only last year, horses such as Rewilding, Society Rock and Lolly for Dolly all won at Royal Ascot. We felt this was our best chance to buy a real Group contender. With the average selling price of £141,000 and the top lot going for £1.7 million this gives you an idea of the quality of the sale.

We went to the sale with 2 potential lots to find for Ann Duffield and our first horse with Sir Henry Cecil.  We were lucky enough to fill all two orders.

On the third day we managed to fill the two orders with lovely horses. We bought the Duffield horse after it was strongly recommended to us by various sources. Upon viewing of the horse we loved her. She seemed like a racey bay filly with a good attitude, a strong looking walk and plenty of muscle definition. A perfect horse for Ann to train. She is also the world's most expensive Indesatchel.

Our final purchase of the book was in conjunction with Peter and Ross Doyle (of Canford Cliffs fame). We have bought many horses for the Hannon’s with them and now asked them to find us a horse for  Sir Henry. A task easier said than done. We were given a list by them of over 50 potential lots that fit our description. After viewing and researching them all we found one we agreed on. Lot 476, a Tagula colt. A  stunning individual with many attributes to his name. He is out of a proven mare who gets on well with Tagula with offspring from these two winning 11 races. A great walker who has the right attitude for Sir Henry's yard. We couldn’t have sent him a nicer horse for our budget. “You have a real horse there” Ross Doyle.

Overall it was a demoralising but yet very rewarding sale. When you find horses that you like and are out bid before you can even get in it makes you that much more pleased when you find any of the two we have purchased.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guava

Guava won in impressive fashion on Wednesday over 6F on good to firm at Nottingham. Richard Hannon Jr said “she’s a lovely filly who we thought that win would come sooner than later. A real prospect.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dhaular Dhar

Dhaular Dhar is our sole runner on what is a quiet weekend for us after a busy week in Newmarket. He is in off his lowest mark since 2006, should hopefully take full advantage of this.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Comedy Act

A great win for Comedy Act on Monday at Warwick. No claims were made so we still own him. A good day for everyone involved. Well done to the owners.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dandy Nicholls

There are new updates available for all the Dandy horses on their my stable pages.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And He's Dreaming

And He's Dreaming has not been entered in the Fontwell race due to frim ground and the Kelso race as it looks a very hot race. We will look further at the Ludlow and Towcester races next week and enter him if we feel they suit. If not his next outing will be Cheltenham on October 15th.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Red Cape

Red Cape runs tonight on the eve of a busy weekend for MPR. It has been over 2 years since he last featured on an all-weather race. If he runs to his mark he should be there or there about. The race is the 6:15 from Wolverhampton.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Whispering Spirit

Whispering Spirit race a blinder of a race yesterday. Paul couldn’t have done any more for the horse, he sent it at the right time, he was just unlucky to be collared in the final few strides by something that came from off the pace. We still own the horse and will be looking to win another claiming race next time out.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Two cool for school

Tomorrow sees our two “cool” horses heading to the coast. Charlie Cool is entered in 2:45 and Kool Henry in the 4:00 both at Redcar. Both should run well, and provide a great start to what is an exciting weekend.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Captain Dunne Draw

Captain Dunne is drawn 5 for Sundays group 1 in Paris. There is no pace from his inside which means he should be able to get out, grab the rail and make all as he has done so many times before. With a high class field (as you would expect from a group 1) this race could be anyone’s for the taking, lets just hope that with there are enough things in our favour to allow us to claim our first group 1 victory.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mayo Lad

Today’s race at Sailsbury seems very warm. There are a lot of big colours in there making the task even harder. It will be a good test of his character today but we are expecting better things next year. Watch the first half of the entrants battle it out in the first for a good insight into how the race will be run. Update. He seemed to travel a lot better but again fell behind at around the two pole. Next time we should be looking for a step down in trip

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mirror Image

Mirrored ran a strong race yesterday. He is a horse showing plenty of promise and slowly casting off his “unlucky in running” tag. He is becoming a horse that you can run almost how you want now, this is through almost two years of hard work from Tim E and the rest of the yard. He stayed on well to take a comprehensive 2nd place. We think the winner of race out classed us and will go onto bigger things. It is only a matter of time before Mirrored wins again.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Richard Fahey open morning.

After the success that was Ann Duffields open morning we are also going to be holding a Richard Fahey open morning. The provisional date for this is Wednesday 9th November. If you are interested in attending please e-mail Nick on : semisonicanthem@hotmail.com.

More information will be posted on here when it is available.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tuesday Runners

Tomorrow we have 2 recruits up at Ayr. Refusetosurrender will run in the 4:10 and Mirrored half an hour later.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ann Duffield open morning

This was a success and enjoyed by all. Everyone got a chance to see the horses work and then have their pictures taken with them. They all were well and looked promising when they were galloping. Expect Ann to be firing in the entries from now until the end of the season.  The two new yearlings looked a picture when Ann brought them out. Ann said she can’t wait to get them broken in and really get to work on them next year.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After a disappointing Saturday where not one of our six runners ended up in the placing’s there is at least a ray of sunshine ahead. The weather forecast for Paris. There is no chance of rain this week so the ground will be good, good to firm, which suits Captain Dunne down to a tee. We are just hoping for a good draw now.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Longchamp update

According to various sources (apps on the iPhone!) and the met office “ there is no significant precipitation forecast for the period (the next 7 days). This is brilliant news for Captain Dunne. I will update more information when it is available.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday Spectacular

We are back to our old tricks again this weekend. After a couple of quite weekends we are sending out 6 horses, including a MPR debutant in MAD MOOSE. With an impressive 3 wins from the last 3 starts we are very excited about him.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mirrored

Mirrored will not run at Pontefract on Thursday 22nd September. Tim Easterby reports he had a hard race at Ayr and he wouldn’t be fit enough for such a fast turnaround.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ann Duffield open morning

The date has been confirmed for the Ann Duffield open morning, it will be this Sunday the 25th September at 10 AM. We will see the horses working and be able to get the first glimpses of the yearlings at their new home however we won’t be able to see them work as they are yet to be broken in. You will also be able to meet the team who train your horses and ask any questions that you should have. It is also a good opportunity for interaction between fellow owners both in your horse and others. It a brilliant way to spend a morning. The morning is open to anyone from Middleham Park Racing, it doesn’t matter if you have shares in a horse at the yard or not, you are more than welcome to attend. For those who haven’t been before Ann’s address is :

Sun Hill Farm

Constable Burton

Nr Leyburn

North Yorkshire

DL8 5RL

We look forward to seeing you there.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clare King

We have had success previously with Clare King (of Emmerdale and Bad Girls fame) and Fremen. Clare regularly attends race days and open mornings. We are now looking to continue this with the as of yet unnamed Strategic Prince colt with Ann Duffield. If you would like to be the syndicate with Clare register your interest now or just give a member of the team a call.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ann Duffield open morning

Over the years we have had many winners with Ann and this season has been no different. We are looking to run an open morning at her yard on the 25th September. This date is subject to change. Keep checking here for more information. Again if you are interested please could you register your interest with tom by e-mailing him on :tom@middlehamprakracing.net .

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Richard Hannon open morning.

We are once again holding a open morning at Richard Hannon’s Yard on Sunday 23rd October. They have proven to be a very enjoyable day out in the past and were sure that this one will be of the same stature. They run a very professional and well drilled yard and it is a privilege to see all the horses work in such picturesque surroundings. The new yearlings should also have been broken in and should have started cantering by then so it will be first real chance to see them work. It is open to both owners of a Hannon horse and anyone else associated with Middleham Park. It promises to be an exciting day. More information will be posted nearer the time with further details. If you are interested in attending please e-mail tom@middlehamparkracing.net .

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Friday Foursome.

Following on from yesterday I am glad to inform you that we have 4 runners out today. We have three at Ayr and one at Wolverhampton. We have Another Citizen, Fol Hollow and Kool Henry all at Ayr while our sole Wolverhampton entry is Whispering Spirit. We really have sent out the big guns today. Expect a splattering of placing’s and hopefully some winners.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thursday Threesome.

Tomorrow we have another busy day with three runners out and about. We have 2 Tim Easterby runners outrunning at the first day of the Ayr meeting, they are Mirrored who is looking to improve on his poor fortune last time out and our new recruit Hayek. We also have Whistledownwind running at Pontefract who is still looking to open his account for us. All should run well and will make anther days entertaining racing for MPR owners.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hopes and dreams.

Looking ahead to  Wednesday’s racing we have Valley of Hope and Dreaming Of Rubies both running at Beverley. Were expecting a good run from Valley of Hope under the instruction of Paul Hanagan. Again under Paul Hanagan Dreaming of Rubies should be there or there about’s.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Insert another 2nd pun here.

Clare Island Boy was desperately unlucky at Yarmouth. Making the break and settling into the back of the pack he never got any room to move being pushed about  by others. The ground looked a bit softer then Good to Firm which suited him. ( it’s just gone good to soft in places) When he was switched to the Stands side he looked to be a lot more game and stayed on for an impressive 2nd. Beating many notable colours again, He should be giving us plenty of big days out next year but probably over a bigger distance. A good run.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Musselburgh Mayhem.

All the race reviews are up from the only race at Musselburgh in the respective my stable sections.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tim Easterby update.

With Art Dzeko and Cried For You out for the rest of the season, Tim has offered Middleham Park Hayek as a replacement. We have accepted this as we see him as a fun horse who will hopefully run plenty of times before the end of the season, the first of which will be on Thursday 15th September at Ayr.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clare Island set to make a splash on the coast.

Clare Island Boy will be going over firmer ground than he is used to but we think that shouldn't affect him too much and will still give a good account of himself like in previous outings. Tune into At The Races for the 2:40 from Yarmouth. Good luck to all involved.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just in time

Just Lille won the only race at Musselburgh in commanding style. Always travelling well she outstayed the others in the race. Fremen came home in 3rd and Charlie in 4th. A good run from the old timer but slightly disappointing form Charlie, maybe due to the winds but the handicapper should take him down a few in time for the Redcar race.

Racing abandoned after Just Lille’s Victory.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ayr Raid Warning

The Ayr Western meeting is one of the favourite weekends of the year for our Northern based trainers and we've had winners at this meeting in 3 of the last 5 years so has been good for us too. We've got 10 horses entered over the 3 day meeting and we hope we can keep up our good record there.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good news for Sir Lexington.

Sir Lexington has come out of his operation fine but will need a little bit of time to recover. More information is available on the My Stable section.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3 Runners in a 6 horse field.

It's a rare sight when any owner has to drag their third colours out but today we do just that and the honour falls to non other than Charlie Cool. We also have Just Lille and the old timer Fremen in the race. With only Sunnyside Tom separating all the horses in the betting this will make for an interesting race. More information to follow after the race. The best of luck to all involved.

New updates available on my stable for all the Duffiled horses.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Two more additions to the Middleham Park Ranks.

Yesterday after racing finished at Doncaster the sales house held the St.Leger Festival sales. This was again for yearlings. We purchased two horses by the end of the sales. They are Lots 63A and 123, they will be trained by David O’Meara and Ann Duffield respectively.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Swift Encounter.

Swift Encounter is to go through the sales ring tonight after racing at Doncaster. After showing promise in his maiden win at Beverly he was invited to the Doncaster Carnival Sale. Ann thinks we should let him have his time on the ring to ascertain his value. As the saying in Racing goes, ''the only time to sell your horse is when you don't want to sell your horse''

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Doncaster Double.

Today we have Tim Easterby’s Mirrored and Jim Goldie’s Dhaular Dhar both in the 4:40 at Doncaster on the eve of the St.Leger. They are currently 7/1 and 20/1 respectively but both have a good chance. If your going have a good day and Tom will be there as a representative so look out for him.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mayo Lad.

Mayo missed the break yesterday and was always behind since then. Coming off the bend in 8th place he stayed on up the straight but had already given the leaders too much ground and ended up coming in 7th. Richard Hannon Jr. is still hopeful speaking to him yesterday he says there are still races out there for him and he could just do with a bit more time to settle further.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mayo Lad.

Just a reminder that Mayo Lad runs in the 2:45 at Epsom today. He is currently 8/1 which a good price for a horse that has a great chance of coming out of this race the victor. If you’re travelling to the course have a great day.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fol Hollow.

Everyone was in high spirits before the race but he hit the stalls on the way out and this ultimately ended his race before it had even began. Adrian reported that the old timer didn’t seem to want to race, and it was very evident that throughout the final furlong his head was in the air and was reluctant to run. This could just be his way of saying that he needs a break. Dandy will see how he comes out of the race and inform us of the best way forward.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Captain Kolo.

Running over a stiff seven again with a bit of cut in the ground which we previously thought would suit him, now seems to be hindering him. Tim thinks that he could be another Captain Dunne who we though wanted softer ground but would be more suited to running on a road! He Didn’t stay this hard seven so we will be looking for a easier seven, at somewhere like a Catterick or maybe even drop him back to six.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Captain Dunne.

Ultimately the rain probably got the best of Captain Dunne, David Allan reported that the ground was riding on the softer side of Good which doesn’t suit the captain at all. With a strong headwind blowing as well everything was against him. Yet again Dunney didn’t let himself down and finished a credible 5th just outside of the prize money. We will see how he comes out of this race and then make a decision on Paris later in the month.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Leger Festival.

So begins another festival of the oldest race in the world, the St. Leger. We have various entries dotted throughout the week and several sales to attend after racing. This is going to be a busy time for Middleham Park so keep up to date with all the latest information by following the twitter accounts or checking back here on a regular basis. Today’s runners at the festival are Fol Hollow and the all conquering Captain Dunne. We also have Captain Kolo running in the 4:30 at Carlisle. Best of luck to all involved.

The rain has stopped! 2.5mm of rain fell. Will be walking the track again later this morning and will update again.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Esentepe.

A brilliant run today from Esentepe at Leicester dominating the race and looking at ease throughout. This just proves yet again the force that is the Doyles, Hannons and Middleham Park shows no sign of slowing down. We just hope that some of horses we send to the Hannons this year can be as convincing in victory as Esentepe today. Congratulations to all connected.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ruth Carr.

There are new updates available in my stable for all of the Ruth Carr horses straight from the trainer herself.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mayo Lad Declared.

Canford Cliffs half brother Mayo Lad has been declared on Thursday at Epsom in the 2:45. We are all excited to see him run again after being so unlucky prior to this. More information will be available when we have it.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Esentepe

Esentepe is a strong 11/4 favourite going into tonight’s 5:00 at Leicester with her nearest rival at 5/1. She should enjoy the ground but is still vulnerable to a new comer emerging from off everyone’s radar and winning. It should make for an interesting race. Best of luck to all the owners.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Twitter.

Twitter is fast becoming THE place to gain information on just about anything imaginable. At Middleham Park we have identified this and currently have 3 members of the team actively using it. Follow @tpalin (Tom Palin) @MiddlehamPark (Mike Prince) and MiddlehamPark1 (Nick Bradley) for all the latest information regarding the business and insight into the post race thoughts of the jockeys and trainers.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Doncaster Update.

Current going GOOD to FIRM. 1.5mm of rain yesterday and 1mm so far today. Forecast is to get more rain this morning but dry this afternoon- this suits many of our entries most notably Captain Dunne. More information to follow

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

David Pipe open morning - Sunday 30th October

We have moved the David Pipe open morning to Sunday 30th October. All our horses at David's will be in training at that point so we'll be able to see them working on the gallops . All MPR owners and guests are welcome to attend.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sarah Humphrey open day - Saturday 17th September

As well as being able to view the stables and see the exciting team of horses that Sarah has for this season there will be a hog roast and drinks. For those of you who would like to have a full day of horses there is afternoon racing at Newmarket which is just up the road.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Swift by name and swift by nature.

Swift Encounter delivered a pleasant surprise at Beverley as he won the 7 1/2 furlong maiden in taking style. A big, strapping 3yo type, we were expecting him to step up on his debut run at Redcar but didn't think he would be troubling the judge. For most of the race it looked like that's how it would pan out, but the penny dropped for him at the 2 furlong pole and he went on to win in game fashion. He may have one more run this term and looks a nice prospect when we can step him up in trip next year.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Another winner

At the start of the season we had high hopes that Another Citizen would step up on his 2yo career and become the next Captain Dunne or Collateral Damage for the Tim Easterby yard. It's taken a while to work out what AC needs in terms of trip and riding style but it looks like sprinting is his game as he built on the promise he showed, when unlucky at Newcastle, to score in fine style over 6 furlongs at Ayr. He won so well that we may have to get him out quickly before the handicapper reassess him. He looks a horse to follow for the rest of the season.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our Boy does the business

Our Boy Jack fulfilled some of his promise by taking the Nursery Redcar on Saturday. Jimmy Quinn said after his race at Chester that he knew the conditions the he could win under and he delivered just that at Redcar. OBJ is now learning how to race and we should see improvement out of him throughout the season. A nursery at the Ebor meeting at York is next on the agenda.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Remembering Ron Bray

4.30pm on Tuesday will be a poignant moment for Pauline Bray as there will be a race run in the memory of her late husband Ron at Beverley. Ron was an owner with us having shares in horses such as Something, Bonnie Prince Blue and Beyaz Villas before he passed away. We have declared 2 runners, Cried For You and Reine Du Froid, in the Ron Bray Memorial Maiden Auction Fillies Stakes as we try to win the race in memory of Ron.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Red Cape brings us to the 400 winner mark

Red Cape landed us our 400th winner when winning the 5f handicap at Newcastle on Saturday. Ruth felt that Red was showing enough early speed in his races that 5 furlongs might now suit him so she switched him back to the minimum trip, a distance he rarely runs at. It proved to be a shrewd move as the leaders went off at a break neck pace, allowing Red to settle in nicely and get a good tow into the race. When the early pace collapsed Red was asked to quicken by PJ McDonald and he always had Pavershooz in his sights, passing him in the final furlong. This was an intelligent switch of trip by Ruth to give Red Cape a deserved win to bring up our 400th winner.

We'd like to thank everyone, especially our owners, that have helped us reach the landmark. We won't be resting on our laurels though as we aim to keep on getting those winners.

Clare Island opens the Hannon 2yo account

Clare Island Boy, repeated the pattern shown by Guava and Not Bad For A Boy, by stepping up markedly on his debut to win the red hot maiden at Sandown. There were well backed Stoute and Godolphin newcomers in field as well others that had already shown a decent level of ability. Clare Island Boy looked a different proposition to his debut at Beverley when he broke smartly from the stalls under Aussie Hugh Bowman. He dictated the pace to the pack and as the field move to the near side rail he came under a strong challenge from the Godolphin horse Greek War, but he soon had his measure and ran on gamely to thwart the challenge of Michael Stoute's El Greco. This was a smashing performance from this colt who looks to have a bright future ahead of him.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fol claims his first win of the year

Fol Hollow notched up the 8th win of his life in the claimer at Catterick. Breaking well from the stalls he was challenged by Sharp Shoes for the lead and as Adrian Nicholls said afterwards \\\\" If they're going faster than Fol then they're going too fast\\\\" and that was the the case here as Fol regained the lead and saw off all comers. We may have to keep Fol at this level to keep him competitive but the win would have been a good confidence boost for him.

Lily puts a smile on a wet weekend

With what is fast becoming a regular amount of runners for MPR on a Saturday we entered the weekend with high expectations from many of our horses. Reports from the Trainers indicated good runs all round.
The only thing that could stop us was the rain, of which this came in bucket loads all over the country affecting many of our horses wanting harder ground. Shortly before racing started courses countywide changed the going to good to soft or soft in places, rendering us helpless to withdraw at such a late stage.
Janet’s Pearl was said to be “pinging” the hurdles at home and schooling well and was well fancied for the race, ultimately the ground got the better causing her to be tailed off. Similar ground related issues affected Come on Dave, My Moment and Bahceli. Our Boy Jack had a real chance of winning and with a more prominent ride next time shouldn’t be too far away from doing so. Finally, Not bad for a boy continued our tradition of late of being beaten by short head despite making all the running. He was unlucky to be beaten by a well back horse on the day. Looking ahead, all showed promise and hopefully factors out of our control will favour us next time rather than hamper.
The big race of the day was the Weatherby’s Super sprint at Newbury with Lily’s Angel. Things were promising with Lily’s recent runs being hopeful and getting weight from some in the race. Coming from off the pace, she showed great speed at the furlong post to get to the front and was unlucky to be caught by Charles the great on the near side rail with a few yards remaining. The race was a great example of the class that this horse possesses and provided the owners with a great day out and £41,000 in prize money much to their delight. There are still many successful days ahead for this young horse.

Charlie too cool for school

Charlie Cool landed the 9 furlong claimer in impressive style at York. The rain had hammered down in the afternoon with the ground riding softer than the official good. The rain had put paid to Fremen's chances in the same race, but Charlie seemed to relish a bit of give in the underfoot conditions and was always traveling well in behind the leaders. He cruised into the lead and kicked on to score by a comfortable 1 3/4 lengths. He can be a force to be reckoned with in this grade.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's the spirit!

Whispering Spirit showed that she's a different horse on the polytrack by scoring a comfortable success at Wolverhampton on Tuesday. Looking to build on her promising return to the poly last time, she was running over a slightly further distance than she had previously won over. Darryll Holland gave her a patient ride in a race run at a slow pace, kicking on in the straight to score by 3/4 length. This was her 7th win from 26 starts.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Janet runs a pearler at Ripon

Janet's Pearl ran out the comfortable winner of the Seller at Ripon on Monday evening. Stepped up in trip to 1m 2f and with champion jockey Paul Hanagan booked for the ride we looked to have placed her well and that's how things panned out. Starting off the well backed 10/11 fav, Paul set a steady pace in front on JP and kicked on 4 out. JP wandered towards the centre of the track on the undulating ground t Ripon but Paul soon straightened her up to go on to score comfortably. We retained her at the auction afterwards for 6,500 gns.

A super Saturday brings a three track treble

Lily's Angel started the ball rolling by taking the listed Empire Stakes on the July course at Newmarket. Under a confident ride from Richard Hughes, Lily stalked the leaders about 5 lengths off the pace but always had them in her sights as the pace quickened. Hughsie switched her right and she picked the leaders up in the last 75 yards to score comfortably. Kool Henry was the next to take the winning baton as he scored a deserved success in the 5f maiden at Newcastle. Silvestre De Sousa rode the race at a beautifully judged pace from the front and managed to see off all challenges to win by a short head. In doing so he picked up our 2nd £10k yearling bonus this year and he's now looking like a shrewd purchase. Granny McPhee returned to her beloved Chester to tackle 5 rivals in the \\\\"Posh\\\\" claimer. Apprentice jockey, Natasha Eaton, has been with Alan Bailey for the last 7 years and she heads off to pursue a career in Dubai next week. Alan wanted to reward her with a farewell winner and he did just that as Granny won under a peach of a ride. Lee Topliss looked like he'd ridden the perfect race kicking off the front of a slow pace on Georgebernardshaw but Natasha knew what she had underneath her and made up 10 lengths in the final 2 furlongs to score comfortably.

Ann Duffield gallops morning - Updated

It now looks like we won't be able to secure Zenella, so we have cancelled the Saturday morning gallops morning. We will hold the normal open morning at Ann Duffield's yard on Sunday 27th June.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ann Duffield gallops morning

We will be holding a gallops morning at Ann Dufffield's yard on Saturday 25th June 9.30am. This will replace the usual open morning on the last Sunday of the month. Everyone Welcome. We plan to watch the string of MPR horses work and then see the 3yo filly Zenella work. Ann has recommended Zenella to us and the horse may be available to purchase if we are happy with her.

The MPR Royal Ascot team is taking shape

Next week will the see biggest team of MPR horses heading to Royal Ascot. After tasting success last year with Junior we're keen to have a bit more. 2yo fillies Lily's Angel (Albany Stakes) Lexington Spirit (Windsor Castle Stakes) and Esentepe (Chesham Stakes) are being considered as well as Bahceli (Britannia Stakes) and Victoire De Lyphar (Wokingham Stakes). In the stayers division Junior will be aiming to defend his crown and will be joined by Private Story and Comedy Act (Ascot Stakes) and you never know, old favourite Dhaular Dhar might just sneak in (Buckingham Palace Stakes) at his beloved Ascot.

Chaninbar mixes it avec les Francais

After finishing very well at Haydock to take 7th in the Swinton Hurdle, Chaninbar heads to Auteil in Paris to compete in the Prix Des Drags on French Champion Hurdle day on 18th June. Chaninbar is in the best form of his life at home and if he can take to the French brush fences he should have a great chance of getting in the money in the Grade 2 race which carries over 240,000 Euros in prize money. Milton couldn't be happier with him and the last time Milton sent one of his horses over to France it beat Kauto Star, we think the race is very winnable and are optimistic of a big run.

Dunne gets his just deserts in the dash

After being beaten by a whisker at Longchamp, Captain Dunne lined up alongside Fathom Five and Jamesway in the Dash at Epsom on Derby Day. And what a warm up for the Blue Riband it was. The Captain, under David Allan, broke quickly and managed to burn off his rivals to bag the favoured stand side rail with the pack trailing in his wake. As the line loomed the pack, including Fathom Five and Jamesway, closed and the race ended in a thrilling finish with 7 horses within 3/4 of a length of each other. It had just come in time for Captain Dunne who landed the spoils by a neck. There were hard luck stories abound in behind with Fathom Five getting stopped in his run and Jamesway was in front 3 strides after the line, but their time will come. Captain Dunne thoroughly deserved to land a big one after being beaten by half a length or less on no fewer than 8 occasions in his career. His elated owners duly celebrated in style!

Marvelous Makhzoon battles to victory

Makhzoon put in a trademark performance at Wetherby to make amends for the narrowest of defeats at Ludlow. Makhzoon was hard at it 4 flights out and was headed coming over 3 out, but under a vintage Richard Johnson ride, Makhzoon battled on bravely and regained the lead on the run in. This horse doesn't know when he's beat.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Always Trying joins Always Winning!

We're really pleased that Mark Johnston has joined the MPR ranks and will train our newly acquired Comedy Act. We bought Comedy Act at Doncaster Sales on Wednesday. He is a 4yo ex Sir Mark Prescott, ex Philip Hobbs gelding that didn't take to the jumping game. Philip returned him to the flat last week where he ran a creditable race to be beaten only 2 1/4 lengths at Chester off a rating of 85. Who better to train a front running, tenacious, middle distance horse than Mark? Horses under Mark's care tend to stay further that you would expect and we think he can improve Comedy Act enough to land some big handicaps.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lexington remains unbeaten

Lexington Spirit made it 2 wins from 2 runs at long odds on at Newcastle on Thursday. In what proved to be a tactical 3 runner affair, Lexington made all under champion jockey Paul Hanagan and was always doing enough the keep the Mick Channon horse at bay. Paul said afterwards that she would have learned a lot from the run as she didn't have to come of the bridle at Thirsk. We'll now be pondering whether she'll be part of our team of horses heading for Royal Ascot.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fremen blows away his rivals

The meeting at Carlisle had to undergo two inspections due to the high winds, but racing went ahead as the jockeys deemed it same to ride. That was good news for us, as Fremen had been well placed off a competitive weight in the 1 mile claimer, the second race on the card. It was business as usual for Fremen, as Paul Quinn got him to the front from the widest draw and repelled all challengers to make all to score by 3/4 length. It was a particularly well judged ride from Paul as he didn't use up too much of the horse's energy getting him to the front and judged the pace of the race perfectly in the tricky, windy conditions. Fremen continues to bring joy to his owners and there'll be more to come over the summer.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just Lille Just Perfect

We love it when a plan comes off and that's exactly what happened at York on Saturday. When we bought Just Lille last month we had this \\\\"posh\\\\" claiming race in mind for her knowing that York would suit her front running style if we put her in off a competitive weight. And so it proved as Just Lille put in a trademark performance under a vintage Silvestre de Sousa ride. We're looking forward to a fun season with her as we aim to place her to best effect to pick up some decent prizes.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sinadinou breaks his duck

After a disappointing start to his 3yo career, Sinadinou took advantage of the drop in grade to gain his first win in the Seller at Catterick. Andrew Mullen earned every penny of his fee as he was at work on Sinny coming off the bend and was rousting him all the way home. He hit the front just over a furlong out and fought off competition from both sides to score. He appreciated the step up in trip to 7f and can win again in this grade.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Angelo Rules At Ripon

When we book Silvestre De Sousa to ride Angelo Poliziano take the hint! Sil's record is now 4 wins from 7 rides on Ann Duffield's quirky sprinter. Angelo can be a bit of a tricky ride but he's met his match in Silvestre who consistently gets the best out of him and so it proved again at Ripon. Breaking well from a poor draw, Angelo was on the premises throughout the race and when Silvestre asked him to quicken, he did so but veered sharply left in the process. Sil soon had him balanced again and he went on to score his fifth career win.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Camera Never Lies

This week we've been on the wrong end of 2 of the closest photo finishes (that weren't given as dead heats) that we can remember. Firstly Makhzoon put in a storming finish at the end of the 3 mile hurdle at Ludlow to join his opponent on the line. As the minutes ticked away a dead heat looked inevitable, but the judge finally decided that he could split the pair and we were called in 2nd place. It was deja vu in Paris 3 days later when Captain Dunne travelled over to Longchamp to contest the Group 3 Prix De Saint Georges. The Captain blazed away from the start and was just beginning to tie up as the pack were closing and the winning post loomed. From the stills on Racing UK we thought the Captain had prevailed, but that cheeky Adrian Nicholls had managed to get Inxile's whiskers in front on the line. C'est la vie!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sexy Lexy Debuts In Style

Due to the exploits of Lily's Angel, Lexington Spirit, our other 2yo filly with Richard Fahey, has almost been the forgotten horse. She soon put that right by bursting into the limelight with an impressive debut win at Thirsk. She travelled supremely well throughout the race and could be called the winner fully 2 furlongs out. She put the race to bed with a great turn of foot going 3 lengths clear in the final furlong and was then eased down for a comfortable victory with Tony Hamilton able to watch himself come home on the big screen. Her win has had Tim scouring the programme book, as we look to plot the paths for both her and Lily's Angel over the next couple of months.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Granny Bags It On The Line

Granny Mcphee made it a Chester festival to remember by landing the 1m 2f handicap on day two of proceedings. Returning to a track that really suits her run style, Granny stalked the leaders for the first three quarters of a mile. She then made a sweeping move around the top bend to put her in position to launch her finishing burst. It was a perfectly judged effort from Liam Jones as he got her head in front bang on the line. Her trainer, Alan Bailey, was very emotional after the race as Granny, who has suffered one niggle after another over the past 9 months, rewarded his hard work. A super training performance.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Unbeaten Lily Stakes Her Claim

Lily's Angel advertised her claims to be running in stakes races by comfortably taking the Lily at Chester. The race couldn't have worked out worse to begin with as she missed the break, normally so important at Chester, and was trailing the field, but she showed a great turn of foot to burst through a gap in the final furlong to scored comfortably in the end. That took her record to an impressive 3 wins from 3 races and we now have some decisions to make as to where she goes next. The fillies races at Royal Ascot have to be on the list as well as the Hilary Needler at Beverley.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bahceli returns to form on Guineas day

After seeing Frankel run rather well over the 1 mile trip at Newmarket earlier in the afternoon, Bahceli decided that he would like to grab some of the headlines over the 1 mile trip at HQ. Bahceli was an early 2yo who won his maiden and Novice in his first two runs over what we thought would be inadequate trips for his big frame. He always looked like he would want a trip and today he proved us right by winning a very competitive handicap over the 1 mile trip. Frankel earlier blitzed the guineas to record a time of 1min 37.30secs, and our own Bahceli recorded a time of 1 min 40.20 secs, a time which would have put him 4th in the 2,000 Guineas which is something to get his owners excited ahead of his probably trip to Royal Ascot for the Britannia Stakes. Bahceli was covered up early in the race under Richard Hughes and, as in his 2yo career, hit a flat spot early in the race but he stuck his neck out and when switched to the outside he travelled to the lead to score cosily.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fremen Fantastic At Newcastle

Paul Quinn gave Fremen a peach of a ride at Newcastle to score very easily at Newcastle. We'd noted that there has been a \\\\"Golden Highway\\\\" effect on the stands rails at Newcastle and Paul's instructions were to take advantage of his high draw grab that rail at all costs. He did just that and he led the field a merry dance as he kicked on 2 furlongs out and scored by 3 and 3/4 lengths. He's a standing dish in these sorts of races and we'll be placing him to try and win them throughout the season.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mak is Back

There were doubts whether we would get Makhzoon back on the track 12 months ago, as he suffered what could have been a career ending injury, but under the care of Tim Vaughan and his team, he has returned to the track in style after running a great race at Chepstow last time out. Makhzoon was always traveling within himself at Fakenham, but found the tight nature of the track not 100% to his liking and was occasionally niggled to retain his track position around what must be one of the tightest tracks in the country. Aidan looked confident that he would be able to get his head in front for most of the race, and as they turned into the straight on the final circuit, he was able to get Makhzoon in a position to win the race from as he slipped up the inside of the long term leader, and as he measured the last fence perfectly he was able to score by 2 and 1/4 lengths. That's 11 winners on the board for this season, not as many as we would like, but there's plenty of time left in the year to get a few more on the board!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lily's Angel makes it 2 from 2 as a 2yo

Having won well at Beverley on her debut run, we were confident that we had purchased another nice horse to run in the MPR silks. The step up into Novice company usually tests 2yos at the next level up and you can't be as confident as you are running against other horses who have also scored on their debuts as well. Lily's Angel broke well, but wasn't able to lie up with the early pace so got a tow from Keith Dalgleish's horse who had ran very well at Musselburgh. She stalked the early pace and travelled within herself throughout the early stages of the race. A small gap opened up the stands rail, and Lily's was keen to take the gap as she burrowed through under Tony Hamilton. As both horses stretched out, she got her head in front and perhaps won a little bit cosily as she did at Beverley. Lily's Angel has been a tremendous horse for her owners particularly when you consider that we picked her up at Doncaster Sales for just £8,000 which she has now repaid to her owners two fold. She will now look to step up again by taking in the Marygate Fillies Stakes at York, a race which carries Listed status. If she could win a Listed race, it would make her rather valuable when the time came for her to retire to the paddocks.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Digger does it again at the age of 11

There haven't been many horses who have won 20 races in their career, and to have one running in the MPR colours has given his owners tremendous pleasure over the last 6 years. There were times towards the end of last season where we thought we had seen the last of Royal Dignitary, as he wasn't showing his usual zest both on the racecourse and his gallops. However, a switch to Dandy's satellite yard has reinvigorated him, and he went to his beloved Southwell yesterday, where he showed a lot of his best form last year.

Last year Digger won a lot of his races from the front, but he couldn't get to the front yesterday due to the in form favourite breaking very well and showing a lot of early speed. Digger tracked him round the bend, and took him on for the lead in the straight. As the favourite wandered over to the near rail, Digger showed tremendous heart to sneak up the rail despite the other horse taking his ground. Digger stuck on bravely and scored by 1 and a quarter lengths

We love it when a plan comes together

Over the last couple of years we have done well with our new recruits with the likes of Diamond Laura, Exceptional Art, Hel’s Angel, Jamesway, Bahceli and Junior all winning on their debuts for Middleham Park Racing, however we have now out done all of those achievements by purchasing Beshabar just two days before he was due to line up in the Scottish National.
Everyone was geared up last weekend for the Grand National and although Backstage ran a great race to finish 10th, the race didn’t go our way as the pace horses never came back to him. We have always had a lot of faith in Tim Vaughan as a trainer, anyone who meets him has to be impressed by his attitude, his work ethic and his desire to be successful. All qualities that are important to us at MPR, and Tim has always been keen to be successful with MPR, and we have now achieved it in the form of the SCOTTISH GRAND NATIONAL WINNER!!!!
Beshabar lined up in the Findlay colours, an agreement we had with their racing manager, as Mrs Findlay is from Scotland and has always wanted to win their feature race of the year. Both the MPR team and Tim Vaughan were of the opinion that Scottish National’s are won from the front, as it is quite a tight a track for a 4 mile 1 furlong race, and the fences are quite close together particularly in the home straight. Dicky Johnson jumped off handy, and soon got Beshabar to the front and in pole position and then got him into a perfect rhythm as he prepared him for each fence. Beshabar is a gutsy horse, as we saw at Cheltenham and he does stick his head down and try almost Goldikovaesque! Gone to Lunch and Merigo both came to Beshabar but neither could live with him as he beat both rivals off to score by a comfortable margin. A big thank you goes to his owners who once again backed our judgment, at very short notice to allow us to be successful. Beshabar will now be aimed at next year’s Grand National where he should have a serious chance. After purchasing Junior and Beshabar we will now look to add to our jumping string at the forthcoming Doncaster Sales, where there is sure to be a bargain or two to be had!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Normal service is resumed at Beverley

Having had a good year with our 2yos last year, we were beginning to worry a little bit as our early runners failed to get their heads in front, but Lily’s Angel our 3rd 2yo to debut put the record straight with a very impressive performance. Lily’s Angel pedigree suggests she will peak at 6 – 8f so, for her to show the speed and class to beat a good horse in One Kool Dude on debut suggests we have picked up another bargain buy at Doncaster Sales. Lily’s Angel picked up a £10,000 yearling bonus for this run, and she will now head for a Novice race to run against other maiden winners.

Mirrored delivers at Doncaster to set up an exciting season

Mirrored was purchased from the HIT sale at Tattersalls in October 2009 and things haven't exactly gone to plan since that date, but the beauty about the UK handicapping system is that when you do figure things out you can get very excited. After joining the Dandy Nicholls yard last year Mirrored disappointed and Dandy couldn't produce him to repeat the form he had shown when under the guidance of Sir Michael Stoute. Dandy won't be the first or last trainer to have this dilemma, and he even suggested that Mirrored be tried in another yard, such is the professionalism of the man. We took the decision to send him to Tim Easterby, who like Dandy before him, had to get imaginative with his training routines, and Mirrored showed signs of appreciating a step up in trip and a more patient ride at both Beverley and Ripon.

Mirrored was trained on his own for this turf season, and this seems to have got him mentally right for the job of racing, as he travelled like a class horse at Doncaster from an off the pace ride. Doncaster suits closing tactics, and Mirrored enjoyed having Duran Fentiman on his back as he remained motionless for much of the race, as Mirrored began to pick off his rivals to squeeze through the smallest of gaps to get in the clear and power away from his rivals. Mirrored scored by a comfortable 2 and a quarter lengths and has since been put up 6 pounds by the handicapper.

Mirrored will now be aimed at the £150,000 John Smiths Cup at York in July, off a mark of 91 he should get a run, and will be off a very winnable mark. If he can get a strong early pace to track, the long York straight should allow him to run a similar race to Doncaster.

Junior destroys the Kim Muir Field to put MPR very much on the National Hunt Map!

Every now and again MPR plans come off, and they certainly did at Prestbury Park this week as Junior stormed to the biggest winning margin of the Festival.

Junior was a well backed favourite for the Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Handicap Chase, having been as big as 20-1 in the early antepost markets, to a starting price of 10-3 Favourite! Junior was to be ridden by top Irish amateur Jamie Codd, who we selected as the rider for Junior after he rode Backstage to a resounding point to point victory in Kirkistown. Junior jumped off in 5th position, and travelled well behind the very quick early pace set by the eventual 3 rd Deal Done. Junior jumped tidily enough on the first circuit, as many of his rivals behind him couldn’t go the early pace and jump at such a speed. After a circuit, Junior began to pressure the lead but the leader continued to jump and travel well and extended his lead down the far side. Jamie didn’t panic and knew that he had plenty of horse underneath him, as he began to give Junior a bit of a squeeze, he responded well to his urgings. Turning in, Junior closed in on the leader and as he went to the front, the Cheltenham crowd let out a roar as he began to power away from his field. Junior had them ‘string out like Monday morning washing’ as he jumped the last to score by 24 lengths!

The MPR buying team selected Junior from the DBS May catalogue and paid just 35,000 guineas for him. Having won at Royal Ascot and now at the Cheltenham Festival he has certainly provided his owners with plenty of enjoyment at Racing’s Premier events. Junior is now 3/1 favourite for the Bet365 Cup held at Sandown at the end of the jumps season, alternatively he could go for the Scottish National at Ayr.

Wake Board lands gamble for MPR and the Info Line!

We bought Wake Board from a certain Mr Findlay in October 2009 for the measly sum of 2,000 guineas only for him to damage a tendon within a month of the purchase. A scan showed a tiny hole in his tendon and he required 12 months off the track for the tendon to heal. His owners stayed loyal to Wake Board and also agreed for the horse to be transferred to Graeme MacPherson's yard where we thought he would be more settled as it was a smaller yard and he would get more time and attention from the staff. Graeme reported that Wake Board had recovered from his injury and that he was keen to adopt the front running tactics employed by his previous connections. Wake Board pulled his way to the front at Catterick under Killian Moore, and jumped enthusiastically in the early stages of the race. Killian gave him a great ride, and gave him a breather down the far side which did allow the pack to close in on him a bit, but as our tank was being topped up, his rivals were using up their petrol. Turning in Wake Board continued to travel well and pulled away from his pursuers to score by 18 lengths. Tim put Wake Board up on the Info line, and it was clear the MPR members were on, as he was hammered in from 100/30 early in the morning to a 6/4 price. Unfortunately the jockey colours didn't arrive until after Killian had weighed out, so it was rather strange to see a MPR horse winning in colours other than the blue and orange. Wake Board was bought after the race for 7,000 guineas by Dr Newland and we wish his new connections all the best with their new purchase.

A great morning on the gallops

Sunday 6th March saw us venture to our latest Stable Visits, following last week's owners' morning at Richard Hannon's and Milton Harris'. This time we paid visit upon Ben Haslam to see our Acclamation 2yo filly put through her paces. She worked really well and moves very tidily. Whilst there, Ben showed off two prospective purchases in the form of Operateur and Oldmeldrum . They look to have wins in them this season. Both look like real dual purpose prospects to me, rather like Duke Of Touraine and Dance For Julie. If there's enough interest within their Middleham Park owners' ranks, we may well acquire one or both.

Then on to Ann Duffield's to see all of ours put through their paces. Much faster work here than we saw at Hannon's or Ben's and the one who really caught the eye, striding purposefully at speed was the Camacho colt (well now a gelding and named Beechey's Beauty). He was very quick, very professional and will be very early. The Antonius Pius (named SWIFT ENCOUNTER) too moved ominously well up the AW gallop. A great attitude and stride on him. A dark bay colt, he really takes the eye. He is a second half of the season horse but will progress very much as a 3yo too.

It was great to see so many owners turn out on a glorious Sunny morning. Everyone I spoke to seemed to have had a thoroughly enjoyable time of things throughout the day.

Swiss Guard destroys his field at Lingfield!

Sometimes plans at MPR don't go exactly to plan, and that was certainly the case for the early part of Swiss Guard's career in the Blue and Orange silks. Bought out of the Aidan O'Brien yard for £20,000 we thought we had a good thing in Maidens on the AW, and an exciting Novice Hurdle recruit. Tim Vaughan reported that after having Swiss Guard for 2 weeks, only one horse had ever gone up the Pant Wilkins gallops like him and that was Ski Sunday. Viruses, cut legs and lack of fitness all prevented Swiss Guard from showing his truly form, but Tim was confident that he had Swiss Guard spot on about ten days ago, and he was proved right today when he demolished a modest field at Lingfield to score by 17 lengths, hard on the steel. Tim Vaughan said after the race 'Today was the first time I have had him spot on, and he will now head to Hereford at the weekend where he should follow up'.

Something gets us on the board For 2011!

As you may be aware, last year we had a successful trip to Cagnes Sur Mer and we have repeated that, with Something destroying his field on only his second run in France. On his first run in France Something had a perfect draw, but couldn't capitalise and only managed to finish 3rd, this time however Something was drawn less favourably, but showed great early speed to sit in a handy position going into the bend. As his rivals were pushed along, Something was still hard on the steel as he powered clear of his rivals with ease to score by 3 lengths. Something picked up 7,500 Euros for his victory however he was claimed following the race and has therefore run his final race in the MPR silks. Something scored 3 times for MPR and put in some exciting performances for us when conditions suited. We would like to wish his new connections the best of luck with Something.
