Purchased at THE sale for 2 year old's; the Goffs Premier Yearling Sale, this colt is by DARK ANGEL. Read more about his sire here: http://yeomanstown.ie/site/stallions/dark-angel-2/ and please see the video of his walk on this page.
With 15 black type performers in the first three generations of his pedigree as well as a Champion 2yo filly as his grand dam's sister, this colt has a superb pedigree, probably as strong as we will be able to afford all sales' season. His dam is by the all conquering Kodiac, a fabulous stallion with Group 1 winners aplenty. He's still quite a young sire is Kodiac and could be about to explode as a broodmare sire too; it'll be fascinating to see.
Dark Angel needs no introduction; he and Galileo are just about the best two stallions operating out there, so to be able to secure one is a mighty thrill. We owned the very first "good Dark Angel" in the form of Lily's Angel as well as the eventual Group 1 performer Realtra by him too, both trained by Richard Fahey. Dark Angel churns out Group winner after Group winner, week in week out.
Our colt looks a very sharp and racy individual, he's a January foal and looks like he'll be competing on the racecourse just as soon as 2yo races begin. He's by a precocious 2yo, from a 2yo Champion's family, by a maternal grand sire who is renowned for producing 2yo's. He hails from the best source of 2yo winners i.e. The Goffs Premier Sale, so we'd suggest a 2yo performer is very much what this colt is bred to be. His genes say he could be top class.
*Qualifies for the £300k Goffs Premier Yearling Stakes during the Ebor meeting next August at York (won in 2018 by Richard Fahey!)*
Update (17th Dec'): The team at the pre training yard are happy with how he is doing and he has progressed nicely. In fact on the gallops, when he was sitting in behind the lead horse, his rider felt they could be going a little faster, gave him a squeeze and he loomed upsides the lead horse, wanting to take him on and go past! A great sign at this stage of his development and a sign that he is precocious.
A son of Dark Angel is always a very exciting prospect as the sire imparts class and quality into his stock. We are very excited about this fellow; all sales season the people who stand Dark Angel continually told us that he was “the bargain of the season” and the manner in which he has taken his work to this stage, we can see why they have been so keen to heap praise onto this purchase.
