In recent memory, the two most taking Royal Ascot, Coventry Stakes winners were undoubtedly Canford Cliffs and War Command. Both were imperious on their day and both went on to be future Group 1 winners at 7f and beyond. War Command, trained by Aidan O'Brien, hails from the multiple stallion producing Ballydoyle contingent and we see no reason why this fantastic son of the champion sire War Front shouldn't make up into a tip top stallion. His first progeny are now yearlings and our colt is from War Command's first crop, due to hit the racecourse in 2018. He's bred in the purple so we see no reason what he can't take rank amongst other Ballydoyle stallions of latter years such as Galileo and Sadler’s Wells. See his stallion page here: http://coolmore.com/stallions/war-command/
Our colt hails from a fantastic female bloodline including the multiple Group race performers Ponte Tresa, Porlezza, Pontenuovo and Pornichet. He looks every inch a high-class racehorse in the making; he has substance, style, elegance and just as importantly, athleticism and fantastic movement. We saw almost 500 horses in the Arqana August yearling Sale and he was one of only 5 yearlings we really wanted to bring home, back to the UK. It's particularly high praise indeed that a horse and a pedigree in its infancy should impress us this significantly. He goes into training with ace trainer Keith Dalgleish who has trained over 200 winners in the last 3 years; he's very much a top-class trainer on the up. He trains our group class Clem Fandango and well as multiple other winners for us such as this season's Miss Bar Beach. We feel our War Command colt will thrive for Keith and all being well, should take us into the winners' enclosure in 2018 and hopefully beyond.
He is also 'French race premiums' qualified. France is well known for its lucrative system of Owners’ premiums on top of already generous prize-money. On the flat, a 2 or 3-year-old can earn an extra 64% on top of the race purse, so we would expect to be taking full advantage of this initiative.
Latest Trainer Update (13th June): Beechwood Jude has grown and filled out well and travels very smoothly on the canter. Keith hasn’t asked him any questions yet as we’ve always had a mid summer debut over 7 furlongs in mind for him but he’s very happy with how his is developing.
*Pedigree update: War Command has now had 2 winners*
