STABLE VISIT-09.15 on Saturday 16th March: If you would like to join us to see this colt, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to book your place.
Purchased at the Goffs Orby Sale, this colt is by TAMAYUZ. Read about his sire here: http://www.derrinstown.com/stallions/tamayuz/. The very best progeny of the sire is our very own G Force. Ever since his authoritative victory in the Group 1 Haydock Sprint in 2014 we have followed the sire, Tamayuz's horses very closely. He imparts plenty of class as well as speed into his progeny and they generally come to had quite quickly as 2 year olds such as Sir Prancealot, trained by Richard Hannon. Brown Sugar was a very high class 2yo too by Tamayuz, alongside horses such as Blond Me, Roseburg, Tupi, Mustashry to name just a few of the sire's high class performers.
From a sale which this season alone has produced the winners of the Gp1 Epsom Oaks (Forever Together), the Gp2 Richmond Stakes (Land Force) and the Gp2 Princess Margaret Stakes (Angel's Hideaway), we are tapping into a proven sale. We purchased our listed winner and Group 3 placed Lexington Times from this sale for €60,000; he went on to compete at Group 1 level for us in the Irish 2000 Guineas no less. The classic winner Sky Lantern was purchased from this sale for €75,000 as was Champion older miler Ribchester. Year in, year out, the Goffs Orby sale produces numerous high class performers. We'd very much like to think that our shrewd Bloodstock team, alongside ace agents Peter and Ross Doyle, have unearthed a gem here for 2019 and beyond.
Our Tamayuz colt is fantastically bred; he descends from the Coolmore family of JAN VERMEER, TOGETHER as well as the very speedy Prix de L'Abbaye winner IMPERIAL BEAUTY. The dam of this colt, Babberina has bred 4 winners from 4 runners, she has a perfect record to date so we'd like to think that this fabulous colt, who has a great action, could follow in his elder siblings' footsteps by courting the winners' enclosure. He's a well developed colt, born on 1st February 2017, so we'd hope that with Mark Johnston's tuition, he could possibly emulate our 100 rated performers VENTURA KNIGHT and Group 1 placed 108 rated MARIE'S DIAMOND as a 2 year old. He's a real athlete of a horse who we hope will debut in April or May, a month or so before the big Royal meeting at Ascot in June. We can only dream of him becoming another Group 1 performer like G Force, Marie's Diamond, Boitron, Ventura Storm, Toormore, Kool Kompany etc who all raced in our silks. Group 1 dreams can come true in light blue and orange, rest assured!
Please see videos of him walking and also cantering nicely on the gallops included with this page. He moves well and looks to have a nice long stride on him.
Trainer Update (8th Feb'): We are delighted to announce that this colt has been named SAN RAFAEL. He’s a strong, imposing sort and he was a bit boisterous when he went into the yard from pre-training, but a week of long-reigning taught him some manners and he’s now back cantering away fine. He’ll be doing 2 * 2 furlong canters daily during February and this will step up to 2 * 3 furlongs during March. At this point Mark starts grading his horses, based both on pedigree and what they are showing on the gallops, as to when they are likely to debut. We've attached a picture of him taken on the gallops yesterday. We look forward to seeing him at our stable visit on March 16th.
