Purchased at the Tattersalls Book 2 sale, this filly is by Mastercraftsman, who needs no introduction, neither as a racehorse nor a sire, as the Racing Post describe him in their stallion synopsis “Champion 2yo; won National & Phoenix Stakes; won two Group 1's at 3, inc Irish Guineas; quality sire.” Read more about him here: https://coolmore.com/stallions/mastercraftsman

He’s the sire or Alpha Centuri, Kingston Hill, Amazing Maria, The Grey Gatsby as well as many many more, so therein lies the potential that this filly possesses. You can see why we’ve decided to dig deep to secure her for the MPR 2020 2yo roster. Not that she’s an out and out 2yo, far from it. She looks the perfect blend of strength and substance to facilitate a 2yo career, but size and quality, especially of movement, to believe she will progress still further, throughout her 3yo career as she encounters a distance of ground. Her fabulous sire, is only part of the reason she appealed; take a look at her dam’s achievements and pedigree, to boot. The mare by the fantastic broodmare sire GREEN DESERT from the family of Hit The Bid, Log Out Island, Bold Edge, Selinka and Brave Edge, she’s already produced the 104 rated Berkshire Blue (by Champs Elysees) who until getting injured in the Spring looked a thoroughly progressive and potentially high class performer for Andrew Balding.

This filly has fantastic looks, with such strength and depth to her, from her withers to her shoulder, yet she’s very athletic too from her withers to her tail. She moves like a dream and looks the archetypal, progressive individual, that suits Newmarket so well. Her pedigree and physique lead us to believe that she’d be perfect to be placed with the former Henry Cecil assistant David Lanigan; already the trainer of the Derby 2nd, MAIN SEQUENCE, Group performer MITCHUM SWAGGER, the 115 rated and Group placed filly ALMODOVAR and the 111 rated Group 2 Dahlia winner and Group 1 Prix Vermeille placed, WORTH WAITING.

We’ve enjoyed some fabulous successes with David, since we first arrived in his yard in 2016; he’s trained us numerous, multiple winners and he’s always looking to maximise any horse’s potential, both on the track and subsequently, through the auction ring. Placing horses exceptionally well is his very best asset, alongside some fabulous communication, but David is adept too as selling horses well, which helps to fund the next project/roll if the dice too.

With David at the helm, we know we are in very safe hands and with this sensational looking filly, possessing her super pedigree, we could well be looking forward to some very exciting times. Were this filly to prove to be a listed or Group performer, it would come as little surprise. However, whatever he level of ability, she will be carefully and studiously managed by David and the MPR team.

Please see her walk video in the gallery.

Pedigree update: TECHNICIAN, by Mastercraftsman, wins the Group 1 Prix Royal-Oak at Longchamp.

Trainer update (23rd March): We have just received this update from David on her: "The Mastercraftsman filly has been cantering upsides and is now going over to Warren Hill and doing her canters over there for the last week. I am very happy with her. She is a good mover and is clear of her wind and she is doing well and is not weak. She's a quality, imposing filly who resembles a colt, such is her depth and substance and that she's very straightforward to deal with, having a lovely temperament. "

Her colour is just lovely, with the grey of her sire coming through. You can see the full video of her parading at our February owners stable visit and listen to David's commentary in the video gallery attached to this page.

Furthermore, she has a very exciting and progressive pedigree. She’s looks a high class middle distance 3yo in the making. If our 3 year old cohort of Longsider and Prince Of Eagles with David are anything to go by, we'll have some fun with our two new additions to Rathmoy Stables!
