Race entries

Purchased at the Osarus Yearling sale in France, where we purchased TIGRE DU TERRE the year before, here we have a stunning son of the high-class miler FRENCH FIFTEEN. He has just had his first Listed stakes winner from his first season progeny, which is super. Read more about the sire here:

Karl Burke and ourselves both fell in love with him at the sales and the stars aligned for us to be able to purchase him for Karl to race. Karl has gone on record as saying, "this is the nicest horse you have sent to me" and it would be no surprise if this colt proved to be Karl's next year's Gp1 Prix Morny winner or Gp2 Prix Robert Papin winner, just as he has done with UNFORTUNATELY, or indeed Karl's really speedy and Group winning 2yo HAVANA GREY. Our gorgeous chestnut colt falls within the price bracket that Karl was able to secure each of these Group winners for.

We think what particularly impressed us about this colt was his ability to combine physical strength and maturity with athleticism and fluidity. It takes a particularly special sort of specimen to pull both of these off at once. He ought to be a fairly precocious individual, hopefully making a debut over 5 or 6f in May or June of 2018, hopefully just in time to debut before Royal Ascot. This colt hails from a family packed with 15 black type individuals, winning at Group 1 level no less and he is out of a Pivotal mare too. He has proven himself to be a superb dam sire, with Group 1 winners MAYSON, HARBOUR LAW and RHODODENDRON at the top of the list.

Both Karl and ourselves are well versed at overseas successes at Listed, Group 3, Group 2 and Group 1 level in recent seasons. This colt is qualified for the lucrative system of Owners’ premiums on top of already generous prize-money. On the flat, a 2 or 3-year-old can earn an extra 64% on top of the race purse, so ourselves and Karl would expect to be taking full advantage of this initiative. Having had a 1-2 in the Group 1 Prix Morny and of course winning his very first Classic, when LAURENS won the Prix de Diane Longines (the French Oaks), Karl is fully aware of the opportunities in France! We love to target French races with these added bonuses and in the modern day, easy access through the Channel Tunnel, means that to race at Deauvillle or any of the Parisian tracks such as Chantilly or Longchamp takes precious little more time than having a runner at Ayr, Hamilton, Ffos Las or Chepstow. We will be very keen to exploit the French angle with this colt to maximise both entertainment and return for his owners.

The French Breeder of the horse has contacted us to take a share in this colt. They have a filly in France, bred on the same cross (French Fifteen out of a Pivotal Mare) that is running at Listed level in France, so they didn't want to miss out!

Latest Trainer Update (20th June): Karl reports that he has given Monsieur Piquer another piece of work after having had a racecourse gallop at Newcastle (see photos attached) and he is ready to run! P J McDonald rode him and said that he liked him and he had a great attitude. Karl will now start to look for races for him. He wants to start him over 6 furlongs with the knowledge that he would improve when stepped up to 7 furlongs.
This colt looks like he ought to have his owners in the winner’s enclosure before too long!
