Ever since we were first introduced to David Lanigan a few years ago, we have done nothing but be impressed by him as he's trained us winner after winner; he's a fabulous person, a great trainer of whatever horse he is delivered and his facilities and communication are second to none-you feel part of the family at Rathmoy Stables. If you are looking for pretty much the perfect trainer, then David would be right up there, in our opinion.
We're hoping we're sending David here, a very classy 2yo for 2019, who should make up into a super 3yo as he is bound to progress throughout his career. He's by the Group 1 winner Free Eagle, who has his first yearlings in 2018 and he's out of Sleeping Beauty; a mare who has already produced a black type performer. His dam is out of Irish 1,000 Guineas winner NIGHTIME-so he is from a family of champions and Oasis Dream is becoming a really top broodmare sire, so the World really could be at this horse's feet. If he were to become a Group performer, you could easily believe it.
The horse himself is a fantastic specimen who has the physical blend of a horse who should be very effective from June onwards as a 2yo before improving further over the Winter and maturing fully as a 3yo, in typical Newmarket, progressive style.
If you're looking for a potentially top-class racehorse with a top-class service to boot, then look no further, this syndicate represents the perfect package. (See his walk and profile video on this page.)
Pedigree update (30th Nov'): The foal 1/2 to our good walking colt has just made 700,000 Guineas at the Tattersalls Foal Sale!
Trainer update: We received the video of him (attached to this page) from David and as you can see he's a very fluent mover with a wonderful trot on him. David is very happy with how he is taking all of his work at this stage of his career and he looks a strong colt who really takes the eye, looking like he would be ready for a mid season debut.
The stallion master from Moyglare, the stud who both owned and now stand Free Eagle, saw him at the yard and commented "He's the nicest looking horse we've seen by the stallion this year, including our own!". If he runs as well as he looks, then we're in business!
David says about this colt: "This is a strong well balanced colt who has a good mind and has done everything we have asked of him so far professionally. We thought he had a good walk at the sales and we thought he was well bought."
David has entered this colt in the Derby. We are yet to win a Classic (2nd in the St Leger is our best result), so an entry in this coveted race has us very excited!
