Purchased at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale, this colt is by Dream Ahead. Read about his sire here: http://www.ballylinchstud.com/stallions/dream-ahead/ and please also see his walk video on this page.
From the time when we purchased (for just 30,000 gns), the 2nd top rated Dream Ahead progeny, DONJUAN TRIUMPHANT, we've kept a very close eye on him as a stallion. He was a multiple Group 1 winning sprinter as a racehorse and his offspring have carried on where he left off, competing in and winning Group races around Europe on a regular basis.
So when Ross Doyle, of Peter and Ross Doyle bloodstock, advised us that he had found the "nicest looking horse in the sale" this son of Dream Ahead, we very much sat up and took notice! We needed little convincing that he should be an attempted purchase the following day, when he was due through as lot 272 at the Tattersalls Ireland Sale.
We've had a lot of luck at this sale in the past, most notably Viren's Army, Great Page and from the 2017 sale, Marie's Diamond, no less. All three were listed and Group winners between them for MPR. Fairyhouse is just a sale that seems to work for us, we think they offer the sort of horses we like, and possibly just as importantly, horses that our trainers get on well with.
From a cracking family and a half brother to a Gordon Elliott 2yo who ran a race full of promise on his only run to date, we feel sure that this outstanding individual, with a great page, could take us to the top tracks in 2019. He reminds us as an individual of DE BRUYNE HORSE who, as a 2 year old went off 2nd favourite for the Coventry Stakes Gp2 at Royal Ascot for us. Physically, the two colts are of a similar ilk, both being speedily bred. There's really no reason why this colt couldn't line up at Royal Ascot in 2019 as De Bruyne Horse did and emanates from the same sale as Marie's Diamond et al.
He looks a top class prospect to us, at this stage anyway. Given we've delivered at that level on more than one occasion with our Richard Hannon horses, you could realistically believe that we may be gracing the turf of some of the biggest and best festivals with this colt in 2019 and beyond. Please see a video of his walk on this page.
Trainer update (10th Dec'): We saw him at our owners stable visit at the weekend, doing a light canter and he really strode out well. He looked fantastic and his dam's name we think is very apt! He was our team member Mike's nap of the day and Richard Hannon Junior has in fact taken a share himself he likes him so much, so very positive vibes. We have added a short video of him in the paddock.
